I received an email from Gilt City today, another one of my favorite deal-a-day sites, offering Virgin American vouchers at a discounted price. There are 9 different options to purchase:

- 3 Medium Haul Round-Trip Flights – $964 ($321.33/flight)
- 3 Long Haul Round-Trip Flights – $1,205 ($401.67/flight)
- 5 Short Haul Round-Trip Flights – $673 ($134.60/flight)
- 5 Medium Haul Round-Trip Flights – $1,521 ($304.20/flight)
- 5 Long Haul Round-Trip Flights – $1,900 ($380/flight)
- 10 Short Haul Round-Trip Flights – $1,270 ($127/flight)
- 10 Medium Haul Round-Trip Flights – $2,870 ($287/flight)

Personally, I typically fly cross-country during off-peak times in the winter, so my fares are never more than $300 RT. However my husband, for example, just paid $700 RT to go from JFK to LAX on business. Depending on your travel this can definitely be a great deal!
The vouchers are for seats in the Main Cabin Select section and is valid only for nonstop or connecting travel on Virgin America flights (not valid for multi-city itineraries). From the terms & conditions, it looks like only one voucher can be used per reservation, however, you can use the voucher for friends/family as long as they are on another reservation (for the same flight). These vouchers are good on select tickets only in fare classes W and O, so it would definitely behoove you to look up your flights of choice prior to buying this offer. Travel must occur between August 15, 2011 thru June 15, 2012.
I actually have never flown on Virgin America, but with this ticket class you will get complimentary food and beverage,1 checked bag, and 6″ of additional leg room.
Blackout dates – 2011: September 2 and 5; November 23, 26, 27, and 28; December 16, 17, 23, 24, 26, and 30; 2012: January 2, February 17, 20, April 6, 9 and May 28
Taxes: Excluded from this price, and must be paid per reservation: “Fares do not include Passenger Facility Charges of up to $9 each way, September 11th Security Fees of up to $5 each way. A segment is a takeoff and landing. For service to/from Mexico, fares do not include the U.S. Immigration User Fee of $7, the U.S. APHIS fee of $5, a U.S. International Arrival/Departure Tax of $16.30 each way (except as noted below) and additional taxes/fees of up to $60, including: Mexico International Departure Tax and Mexico Tourism Tax. All taxes and fees noted above will be payable at time of booking. Important Note on Suspension of Federal Percentage Excise Taxes, Federal Segment Tax and U.S. International Arrival/Departure Tax: Federal authority to impose this tax has expired with respect to tickets sold on or after July 23, 2011 for travel on or after that date, and, as a consequence, Virgin America will not collect these taxes until such time as they are re-instated by the U.S. Congress. ”
Virgin America Elevate members can forward their Gilt City confirmation email to Elevate@VirginAmerica.com to receive 5 points per $1 spent on their Virgin America Gilt City purchase. Please allow 4-6 weeks for your points to post to your account.
Additionally, using my referral link you MIGHT be able to get 20% off the first $250 of spend for new members (and if you are already a member just create a new account). The 20% promotion is not quite clear, however, and it might only be for purchases that do not exceed $250. Either way, it is worth a call to Gilt group to see if they can apply the discount or at least offer a credit. If you are purchasing this deal (or already have), please comment on letting us know if the 20% off worked for you.
