Starwood Preferred Guest® Credit Card from American Express Offer

The Starwood Preferred Guest® Credit Card from American Express and Starwood Preferred Guest® Business Credit Card from American Express OPEN are my personal go-to credit card for every day spend as I highly value my Starwood points and it is the only hotel credit card where you can transfer your points to most participating airline at a 1:1 ratio. You also get a 5,000 mile bonus when transferring 20,000 points.

Take a look at this previous blog series to get a detailed analysis of the card, the perks, the programs, and my favorite ways to redeem Starwood points:

  1. The app links mentioned above give “We’re Sorry
The page that you requested cannot be found.” Seems app page was removed from SPG website.

  2. Just an FYI, current American Express cardmembers (any Amex card) are not eligible for the 15,000 bonus. Just tried to apply while logged in and wouldn’t work, read the T&C (footnote 2) while logged out. Should have pulled the trigger last month. 🙁

    • @Sam – I believe only existing Starwood AMEX card members are not eligible. Interesting experience though, let me know if anything changes.

  3. @Deals Ok, now I think I’m losing it haha.

When I go through your link footnote #2 reads “You must use your Starwood Preferred Guest Credit Card to complete $5,000 of eligible spending by the end of your first six months of Cardmembership, based on the date of your Card approval. 15,000 Starpoints will be credited to your account 8 to 12 weeks after you reach the spend threshold. Offer not available to existing (American Express) Cardmembers.”

When I go through spg.com (after signing in to my spg account) and get to the application link footnote #2 reads: “You must use your Starwood Preferred Guest Credit Card to complete $5,000 of eligible spending by the end of your first six months of Cardmembership, based on the date of your Card approval. 15,000 Starpoints will be credited to your account 8-12 weeks after you reach the spend threshold.”

My apologies for such a long comment, any thoughts on the T&C wording?

    • @Sam – Not a problem at all!

Essentially, I am seeing the following: “Bonus Starpoints are for first-time Starwood Preferred Guest Credit Cardmembers only. Bonus Starpoints can only be received once per Cardmember, regardless of the number of Starwood Preferred Guest Credit Card accounts the Cardmember may have or had.”

  4. So does this mean that one cannot get both the AMEX SPG personal AND business card and get BOTH bonuses (only one or the other)?

    Thanks!
