OneWorld MegaDO Announced!

With the title of this post, you are probably asking yourself, “What the heck is the OneWorld MegaDo?” And it is totally understandable. Essentially this is an event partnered with American Airlines and Hyatt giving you the a behind-the-scenes travel opportunity. There is a European and US portion of the tour where you will fly AA traveling to various AA hubs, meet other obsessed travel junkies, tour some cool air crafts, and earn some points and miles.

From reading other blogs, it looks as though both Mommy Points and Gary from a View from The Wing will be attending and reporting the updated details as well! I am really thinking about attending the domestic portion, just need to figure out some things. While the international piece sounds cool as well, I will have just gotten back from a 18 day trip to Thailand and just cannot take more time off of work. This, to me, is such a cool experience! While some would love a tour of their hometown major league baseball stadium, for me, I would prefer sitting on a place, talking to other mileage lovers, and meet some top execs from AA and Hyatt.

While, it is a pretty steep cost for this event, there could potentially be some cool perks. This past fall for the Star MegaDO, all guests received Diamond status from Hyatt, not too shabby?! The economy class seats for the domestic portion costs approx $799, but you will earn 7,500 miles (which will count towards elite status). While the event departs from Dallas and arrives in LA, this price does not include getting to/from these locations. Also, hotels will be extra. To view the prices of more elite seats, click here.

Additionally, Hyatt and AA are also offering bonus points for additional flights/stays from now until January 13th for those taking part in this event. You can earn up to 200,000 Hyatt points (additional details here), and up to 57,000 AA miles (additional details here). Too bad this didn’t count for the 2 years I stayed at Hyatt hotels every week M-Th or the two years prior to that when I flew AA round-trip every week as well!

I have listed out some of the details below, and will post when additional information is listed. It seems as though there are still some details in the works that have not yet been disclosed. So what do you think, should I go?! Are you thinking about going?! I figured this will cost about $1,400 ($800 for the event + $300  for a flight to/from the event + $300 for 3 nights of hotels).

If you can swing it, you absolutely should go! Speaking from my own first Mega DO experience last month, you won’t regret it. You will, however, probably regret it if you don’t book. That really holds true to everyone who is on the fence. I’m using miles to get to/from the event and shave some cost off there. It really is a great experience. Hope to see you there!

I’m thinking of going as well, but it is expensive and I don’t have that many vacation days.

Decisions. Decisions!

@Daraius – I hear ya! I am estimating about $1,400 (less if using points). But I did miss the StarMegaDO, which I am quite sad about and AA has always been my alliance. I think I am going to have to do it. Just gotta figure out how to switch a bachelorette weekend which I am the maid of honor for 🙂

The bachelorette party could be ON THE CHARTER.!!!

On the last one, there was a marriage proposal. Interestingly, subsequent to last month’s event a couple on the flight has gotten engaged.

It’s not just a party flight, it’s the LOVE-DO!

@Gary – Trust me, I would LOVE that – unfortunately, I think it would be my friends worst nightmare. They already think I am nuts!
