Groupon is offering Southwest travel certificates from select cities to Las Vegas for $10. These certificates will get $40 off a “Wanna Get Away” fare depending on the departure city (so essentially giving you $30 off). They are good for round-trip tickets only and must originate in the city for the voucher purchased (cannot originate in Vegas). Additional limitations is that the vouchers are only valid Monday – Thursday and must be redeemed by November 11, 2011 for travel through December 14, 2011 (not valid November 22-29). While it would have been better to see all Southwest airports including in this deal, it is unfortunately limited to just four cities: Los Angeles, San Francisco, Oakland, Portland, and San Diego.
These vouchers are not valid on existing reservations, however, if the fare price has not gone up, you can always cancel and re-book. You will receive the unused portion back in the form of a credit that is valid for one year from the date of purchase. Travel vouchers and credits are non-transferable (this is a change as of this past summer).
If you live on the west coast and are looking for a weekend trip to Vegas this can save you a few bucks. You are only able to purchase one Groupon certificate per person (per offer listed).
The interesting thing is in the terms and conditions, it does state: “Cancellation of flight will result in travel credit in passenger’s name at the full value of the ticket purchased, valid for 1 year from the cancelled date.” While this is the standard cancellation policy for all Groupon purchases, I wonder if cancelling your ticket will include the $40 voucher. I will do some investigation and get back to you!
