Delta SkyMall Bonus Miles Posted – 100,000 Miles for $585!

Just want to let you all know that the Delta miles from the SkyMall promotion back in December have finally posted! With this promotion you received 25,000 Delta miles with every $500 purchase. DeltaPoints got me really excited for this promotion and clearly I could not resist! I purchased 4 Samsung Galaxy tabs resulting in 100,000 bonus points!

a screenshot of a computerHow well did I do?

  • Each purchase cost $676.38 (includes tax and shipping)
  • Found the same item being sold at J&R and requested a price match, which I got back $50 per purchase
  • Sold each of the tabs for about $480 (after ebay and paypal fees)
  • TOTAL PAID: $146.38 each = $585.52

So ultimately for $585.52 I got 100,000 Delta miles, which is less than half a cent per mile! While this did take a decent amount of work to achieve – being at the computer right at 1am to make the purchase, selling the items on ebay, going to UPS to ship – it was worth it for me.

If you have the Delta Skymiles Credit card, the 100,000 earned can be redeemed for $1,000 worth of travel with the “Pay with Miles” option (more info here). While this is not the best value for redeeming your points, it still shows that I made at least $415.00. If you are able to get a low level award, 100,000 miles can be redeemed for a business class ticket to Europe – amazing deal for just $585 (although getting low level awards on Delta has proved to be somewhat challenging)! In addition to the 100,000 miles earned, I also received about 2,700 membership reward points for using my Amex credit card for this purchase. It also helped me meet my minimum spend on the card to receive the bonus points!

Did any of you get in on this bonus promotion!?!

The pay with points is generally worth less than 1 cpm since you do not earn RDM or EQM, and you can’t upgrade. I would only use this opton to buy someone else’s ticket (then I guess it could be worth 1 cpm).

@Gene – I agree that the pay with points option is by no means the best option, but just trying to show the minimum value I earned on this promotion. I will absolutely be getting a greater value for my points when redeemed.

Very nice… How did you know that you could sell them back on ebay and at what price?

@Nguyen – I checked the going rate on eBay and followed a few bids to get a good estimate. Of course there is always a risk, but luckily all went well.

How does the price match work with Skymall?

@Sapan – Directly from Skymall: “Everything at SkyMall is offered at the same prices you’d find in the original catalog. There’s no additional markup. We guarantee you’ll always get the best price: if you find an identical new product advertised for less within 30 days of the receipt of your order, just send us the ad and we’ll refund the difference”

From my experience the price match did take a decent amount of time to be credited back to the credit card.

Great

With your skypesos you can get a ticket to Greenville or Nashville.

@FrauSchmitd – ha! I hear you on that, but I was actually able to snag a 25K ticket (low level award) from New York – Salt Lake City that would have otherwise cost over $350.

For the effort and time you had to spend, it is very hard for me to see it worthwhilex

@Noltian – I agree that this was time consuming, but for me it was worth it. I agree though that you need to value your time and see which offers work for you. I personally had the time so was happy to partake – also, I am obsessed!

@Michael W – I agree. I figured worse come to worst, I would break even.
