Post #12 compliments of Mr. Deals…

So Mr. Deals has a work trip coming up and Mrs. Deals is less than pleased. Now it’s not because she will miss Mr. Deals or that he will be away during that made up Hallmark Holiday that falls in February, oh no, quite the contrary. Mrs. Deals is pissed because Mr. Deals will not be staying at one of the big hotel chains. Thanks babe, I’ll miss you too…

As most of you already know if you’ve been following my weekly ramblings, I tend to travel for work from time to time. Mrs. Deals will sometimes tag along, but a lot of the time she’s just there in spirit because she’s pre registered me for every deal under the sun to make the most of my work travel to add to our pool of points/miles. Don’t get me wrong, it’s great but sometimes work has other ideas.

For this particular trip we have a team offsite. It’s taking place at the hotel we will all be staying at, which happens to be the Huntley Hotel in LA. Now I know nothing about this place, but it looks nice and is part of the Preferred Hotels & Resorts Group (see Mrs. Deals, I’m looking into the benefits I can get). I’m ok with it as its just a couple days, but since I got word of this trip it’s been nothing but “hey, so you can stay at this Hyatt (Starwood, Marriott, whatever) and it’s not that far from the Huntley. Sorry Mrs. Deals, not going to happen. Oh and the worst part is, it’s going on the company credit card, so I won’t even get those points. Sometimes you just gotta roll with the punches and miss out on some points/miles…

So with that said, if anyone has any tips about the Huntley Hotel that I should know, let me know!

Until next Sunday…

P.S. – I’m still getting my AA miles. Platinum status here I come!

Enjoy the Huntley the nearest sheraton is a disgrace. Make sure you sign up for iprefer. The hotel is quite nice and has a great bar area on the top floor.

The Huntley is an uh-ma-zing property. It’s actually in Santa Monica, so you’ll be very close to the beach. Also, go to the restaurant/bar on the top floor, it has great ocean views. Have fun!

Good for you. No need to annoy the coworkers. But it can work out. I was lucky when, at the last conference I went to, Hyatt just happened to be the cheapest option and was offering 5K bonus every three nights. It turned out a lot of the other students were paying $100 more per night.

You win some and you lose some in the points game…best to not rock the boat at work, though given my way, I hotel hop till the trip is over!

haha…staying at the Huntley is a very good problem to have. Id pass on some points to stay there, especially with someone else picking up the tab. Check out the penthouse at the Huntley (the bar, not the actual penthouse) which is very glam. Also its incredibly close to the beach so enjoy that….though supposedly the weather isnt so great right now.

Thanks for the comments everyone. I’m liking the sound of the Huntley. Maybe I’ll post a review when I return!
