British Airways Avios Bonus Points with Nordstrom Shopping Update

About a month back I posted on a great way to earn 36 British Airways Avios points per dollar spent on all online Nordstrom purchases. Unfortunately, the promotion was pulled early, but for those that were able to jump on the deal it really was a great opportunity! I went a little crazy with purchases, of course, and ended up with 142,122 points.

While I was originally skeptical that I wouldn’t receive the full bonus, a few days ago my base and bonus points earned went from “Pending” to “Approved” and my points are now showing in my British Airways account, ready to be redeemed!

Each purchase posted separately as 12x points. The last two rows consolidates all the points earned and represents the bonus (12x points each). Unfortunately, many folks emailed me and commented on my blog that they only received one 12x bonus, not both, thus only receiving 24x points for their purchase, not the 36x points. It seemed as though these folks might have already used the British Airways shopping portal in the past (this promotion was for first time purchases only) or that they did this towards the end of the promotion.

However, good news – If you only received 24x points and not your full 36x points, I’ve received a positive update from a reader with this experience. This reader only received the 24x points so went ahead and filled out the missing miles form on the British Airways eStore site. You can access this form here. That same day the reader received an email back from the eStore site letting them know that they have credit the account with the missing miles and are currently showing as “Pending” on the account. From my experience, it takes about three weeks for these points to move to the “Approved” status. If this happened to you, make sure to quickly fill out the form to earn those additional 12x points. While 24x points is still great, 36x points is even better!

Enjoy your British Airways points! Stay tuned to a future series highlighting the best ways to redeem your earned Avios points.

  1. my 12,000 Avios points did credit, though I thought I waited a long time.

Just thought I’d add some info. In retrospect I felt that one or two of my purchases were silly (really, what was I thinking ordering an Ugg sherling scarf with sequin trimming or a Tumi iphone case?). Anyway, I know that Nordstrom offers free returns but didn’t want to do a typical return for fear of losing the Avios. Also, there are no Nordstrom stores in Manhattan, and its a pain to go to Long Island or Westchester. There is a Nordstrom Rack in Manhattan and I phoned them.

I was told that you can return any Nordstrom purchase at Nordstrom Rack!

I also asked whether, although I have all my receipts for the purchase, would I be able to get a gift card at Nordstrom Rack instead of a credit to my charge card.

    I was told yes.

    • @Kathy – Glad to see the points finally posted! I hear you on buying impulse purchases just for miles! I have heard that the Nordstrom Rack in Union Square will allow you to return from Norstrom online and in-store, but not all Nordstrom Rack stores operate like this. I was at a Nordstrom Rack in the Boston vicinity a few weeks back and they will not take back purchases from Nordstrom (online or in-store). It seems to differ per store.

Nordstrom has the best return policy by far out of any other department store. They will take back anything (and I mean anything!) years later and in any form – even normal wear and tear damage. They with returns they will put the item back onto any credit card you so desire, or as you mentioned, gift card. They are amazing!

  2. Does anyone know how to find flight saver awards using Avios when your not leaving from London. I’m living in Dusseldorf and would like to see what point saver options I have throughout Europe. Any help would be very appreciated. Thanks.

  3. I only had 24x points showing but after a quick email to BA I got the extra ones added very quickly, no questions asked! Really glad you posted this, otherwise I’m not sure what I would have done.

  4. Thanks for this post and for providing the link to the form. I’ve filled it out and am keeping my fingers crossed for the missing 12X points!

  5. I emailed BA after only getting 24x points, and they said that they pulled the promotion on 2/9 (my order was made on 2/10) so that I was not eligible to get the extra 12x bonus. I took a screen shot showing that the promotion code was accepted and emailed it back to them, so I will let you know what the outcome is.
