New Amex Business Gold Rewards Offer – 75,000 Bonus Points!

UPDATE: This promotion has ended.

Currently, there is NO bonus offer with the American Express Business Gold Rewards Card, however, through June 26th, this card comes with a 75,000 bonus point offer! This is the 3rd time I’ve seen this limited time offer – once back in November (when Mr. Deals took advantage) and then again in February. Since I transfered most of my Membership Reward points over to British Airways during the 50% bonus opportunity (which has since ended), this might be the perfect opportunity to replenish my stash!

The unfortunate thing is the minimum spend to receive the bonus points is quite high at $10,000 spend within the first four months. If you are a high spender, 75k points is a great offer and this is a pretty good card, although I must admit I am favoring the Ultimate Rewards program right now. The fee is waived the first year, but is then $175 which is quite high. This might be a card you get just for the bonus points and then cancel prior to the yearly fee hitting. However, even with yearly fees, I’ve still been able to make money off of Amex with various promotions offering extremely lucrative statement credits. You can see this prior post here on how I’ve been able to make this happen – in just 10 months I’ve received more than $1,000 back in statement credits, making the annual fees well worth it!

Card Perks: This card, along with the American Express Premier Rewards Gold card (the personal version of this card) offers 3x points on all airfare purchases. That is a huge bonus opportunity. Also, this card is part of the OPEN savings program, where you will get additional discounts with the following purchases: 3% off Hyatt, 5% off Marriott (Courtyard, Fairfield Inn, SpringHill Suites, Residence Inn, TownePlace Suites), 5% off FedEx, 5% off at Office Max, 5% off at 1-800-FLOWERS, and 5% off at Barnes & Nobles. You can learn more about the OPEN savings program here.

I wrote a full review on this card here, but just to re-cap:

  • $175 annual fee waived the first year
  • 3x points on airfare (up to $100,000 of eligible purchases each calendar year, and single points thereafter)
  • 2x points points on purchases in the U.S. for advertising in select media, gasoline at U.S. stand-alone gas stations, and shipping  (up to $100,000 of eligible purchases each calendar year, and single points thereafter)

The terms specifically state: “Welcome bonus offer not available to applicants who have had this product or any other Business Gold, Green or Platinum card account within the last 12 months.” However, if you recently opened the card with no bonus offer, I highly recommend sending a secure message and calling today asking for them to bump the bonus. Explain to them that you are a loyal customer, just applied for the card with no bonus offer, and now today see a better offer out there for 75K. If you have the personal card version of this card, you ARE eligible. You can also check out a consolidated list of all credit card offers available here.

i currently have the business platinum card that i got almost 2 years ago. Am i eligible for the 75000 bonus?

Their statement about 12 months is confusing. is it if we applied for a card in last 12 months, or is it if we have the card for last 12 months?

@Iana – You should still be eligible as I believe it is if you have applied for another card in the past 12 months.

Does applying via the short version of the app disqualify the 75k promo? Asking because I do not see anything mentioned about the bonus once I click YES already a card member.

@Albert – If you apply via this link: https://www262.americanexpress.com/business-card-application/business-gold-charge-card/apply/44060-286-0 you will be good for the 75k offer. On the right hand side of the page you should see the terms of the offer which state: “Limited-Time Offer – Earn 75,000 bonus points when you spend $10,000 in your first 4 months of Card membership”

It’s too bad that the spend to receive the bonus is so high. I’d love to get the offer for my wife. If we weren’t working on other spends I might consider it.

I also received the 75k offer around November when they had it for one day.

I received an invitation for an AMEX Business Platinum card in my mailbox today with a “100,000 bonus points” award after spending $10,000 by November 2, 2012. There is a preprinted RSVP number on the app itself so I assume it is targeted but I wanted to share in case it is not. I have until August 4, 2012 to respond. The annual fee of $450 does not appear to be waived so perhaps the Gold card is a better deal for the points.

@BDM – I have heard of this promotion from some others and it seems to be targeted. While the annual fee is not waived, you can get a $200 statement credit each calendar year. So if you plan on cancelling before the next annual fee is due you can get $200 airline credit for incidentals.

I tried the link yesterday and again today and it’s not working. The message says “Currently, our systems are not responding. Please try again later or call/contact us as follows…” Was the offer pulled early?

Hi everyone! I applied the Amex business gold card for our business during the promo period. Made 10k purchase on the card within the first 3 month. Amex is not crediting the 75k points. They pushed us around and told us that the source code was not correct. Does anyone knows what we can do to get the big corporation to keep their promises?
