With the end of the month there are MANY MANY MANY promotions ending. Many of these have been extremely lucrative and I want to ensure you do not miss the deadline.
While the Starwood “Nice Choice” promotion goes through September 30th, you MUST register today for your promotion of choice. Starwood is very strict with registration dates and will not manually register you after this date.
You have your option of three time periods to select from (May 1-July 31, June 1-August 31, and July 1-September 30). You also can only select one of the twelve options available. I am personally selecting the 500 points per night at Sheraton hotels. Register here now!
The Megabonus promotion runs June 1-August 31, however, you MUST register today! Each account was targeted with one particular promotion, although many times Marriott will manually change your promotion with one simple call (1-801-468-4000). They will not be able to switch the promotion in your account, but will document this request and manually adjust the points you are awarded after the promotion is over.
You will need to sign into your account to see the targeted offer you received. You can also call Marriott and ask them to register you for the promotion. I was targeted for the stay twice get a free category 1-4 night (up to three free nights). This is my preference as all of my stays are one nighters. Also, the free nights now do not expire for a year, which is AMAZING!
Order an American Express Prepaid Reloadable card and load it with $200 for a FREE $25 American Express gift card! There really are no strings attached. The prepaid card can then be used anywhere American Express is accepted or even used as an ATM card to withdraw cash (the only fee is the ATM fee).
Each individual is allowed to order three of these prepaid cards, so you can get a total of $75 for FREE! You must load $200 at once when ordering the card and can only be funded by your checking or savings account (no credit cards allowed). These prepaid cards include purchase and fraud protection and have no foreign transaction fees when used abroad! You can read more about this promotion and these prepaid cards in this prior blog post.
You can earn a 100% bonus when purchasing US Airways miles up to 50,000 miles. This means that you can get a total of 100,000 miles for $1,881.25 (which includes taxes/fees, etc.). This can be a great value for some, but not everyone. For example, if you are looking to fly business class to London that will cost you 100,000 miles. Paying $1,881 for this ticket is typically much cheaper than the normal price of 3k+. I personally would not buy these miles out of pure speculation, but if you have a need, it could absolutely be worth it – just make sure to do the math! You can purchase your US Airways miles here.
Get a 30% bonus when you purchase Amtrak points. I actually took part of this promotion as a train ride from NYC to DC was over $100, but to redeem for a free only requires 4,000 points. I was able to purchase these points for $82, thus saving about $20! All Northeast routes are 4,000 points on the regional so this can absolutely me a money saving opportunity!
Also, with Amtrak reservations (paid tickets and points), as long as you haven’t actually picked up your ticket you can cancel your reservation at any time for no fee! If a paid ticket, the paid amount will go right back to your credit card and if a free ticket the points right back to your account. You can purchase Amtrak points here.
American Express will give you a 20% bonus when you transfer your Membership Reward points to Starwood’s SPG loyalty program. This means that you can transfer 800 membership reward points for 333 SPG points. By no means is this a great value, however, if you are in dire need of SPG points for an amazing redemption, then it could be worth it. Typically the best Amex redemption value is for airlines as the transfer ratio is 1:1 and there are many times bonuses as well.
Although BMI is being acquired by British Airways, you can still purchase miles for this loyalty program at a 20% bonus. Then starting July 3, 2012 you are able to transfer your BMI miles to British Airways Avios points at a 1:1 ratio. Going this route is much cheaper than purchasing British Airways Avios points directly.
This will allow you to fly on an American Airlines short-haul flight (pending availability) for $178 roundtrip. Or you can fly from NYC to Toronto or Montreal for a fixed $222! While purchasing points can still be expensive, this could be worth it for those who have an Avios balance of zero and looking to take advantage of these gem redemption options! Of course, you can always transfer your Chase Ultimate Rewards or American Express Membership Reward points at a 1:1 rate. Or, you can look into the British Airways credit card for the current 100,000 point sign up bonus. These three options are great ways to enhance your account balance!
Do not delay! There are some great promotions here I’d hate to see you miss out on! Enjoy the weekend!
