Success with my $50 FREE at a Michelin Restaurant

Last night I ate at my first Michelin rated restaurant for $18 (and that was for three people)! Mr. Deals is away, so my sister is here to play. I always treat her for the weekend and of course was looking for a deal for dinner. My first thought was “Let’s look at” Then it occurred to me – I have yet to use my British Airways $50 statement credit at a Michelin rated restaurant. My new credit card just came in the mail last week and it totally slipped my mind. That could have been a huge disaster!

Luckily I remembered with five days to spare! And with that, my sister, a friend, and I went to Sushi of Gari in NYC. While this was only a Michelin star 1, it was amazing! The sushi was great and some how or another the bill with tip/tax only came to $68. This was for 3 appetizers and 4 rolls – just enough food for us, but definitely not the big ticket entrees.

So if you have a British Airways credit card, remember that you have until July 31st to get $50 back at a Michelin rated restaurant. You are able to utilize this promotion twice, so it looks like me and the sis will find another place before she leaves! That will give us $100 total on free food, and we’d be eating out anyways. If you and your significant other, or a friend/family member, have the card, you can ask the restaurant to split the bill, just make sure that at least $50 is charged to both card. Already the $75 annual fee has paid for itself!

You can see of a guide of all the NYC Michelin restaurants here, Chicago Michelin restaurants here, and San Francisco restaurants here.

    • @Charles – You are correct, that is misleading. The actual charge has not posted to my statement yet, so neither has the statement credit.

  1. I am up in Boston. Do you think this would work by ordering a gift card and having it sent to me for a future NYC visit?

    • @Nadine – I am 99% sure that will work. I have not done that, but no of others that walked into the restaurant and got the gift certificate.

    • @Deb – it has to be at a michelin rated restaurant. I believe that these are only in NYC, Chicago, and San Francisco. However, the promotion is only for those in NYC.

  2. Is there a minimum spend amount to get the $50 credit or would a $30 lunch earn me a $50 credit? Only in NY for the next 24 hours and need to figure out my dining situation anyway.

    • @truthiness – it is a $50 minimum, so it’s not a money making opportunity just a free lunch or diner!

  3. Also, you won’t be able to purchase gift certs, or it will be very difficult as a lot of the restaurants process their cards through 3rd party vendor machines which wouldn’t necessarily earn the credit.

    • @Charles – Thanks for pointing that out. You need to call the restaurant and ensure they can put it through their system, just as if you were paying a bill for a meal. If they can’t then DO NOT get a gift card with them.

  4. Anyone have any luck with buying 2 gift certs for $50 at the same restaurant in different transactions? I was thinking of doing that, and wanted to see if people were successful.
