Unfortunately if you haven’t already registered, registration has met its limit. If you already registered and received a confirmation email, I have some details to share with you.

  • Many of you asked in the comments section if you needed to live in one of those zip codes and the answer is NO. With all of these Amex registration and syncing promotions, you never need to reside in the zip code where the promotion is being held, just the merchant must be in that location.
  • As long as it is a business in that zip code it seems as though it will work even if it is not on Amex’s merchant list. Their list is horrible and always has been for these type of promotions.
  • You are able to participate in all 5 cities (assuming you already registered)
  • You are able to utilize as many Amex credit cards you have (again, assuming they all have already been registered)
  • The $20 must be in one purchase and includes all taxes and shipping charges – Amex only cares about the final total on your statement

Now, for participating merchants and what will/will not work, nothing is guaranteed. Of course if you live in the local area, going into the store is your best bet. People have reported online purchases to work along with calling the store directly to purchase an order. I personally placed an order with a tea company online and will see if that works. As of yet, I have no confirmation email, but the order was placed only a few minutes ago. Many have been able to order gift cards to use at the store when they are in the local area. Others purchased multiple gift cards with multiple Amex credit cards so when they eventually place an order online they are only charged shipping fees once or those fees are waived since they’ve hit a minimum spend.

I personally haven’t played around with this too too much. I registered one Amex credit card immediately when I found the promotion and unfortunately the slots filled quickly before I was able to register my other cards – oh well.

Here are some sites that have fully detailed some success stories:

Data point: Placed 3 orders on a beauty supplies site (for the gf of course!) and 3 orders on a ramen site (for myself). So far, nothing has been posted on my amex statement yet.. Still have more registered cards, but pretty hesitant to place more orders.

Thanks for the heads up about this deal on SD!

I made my purchases yesterday. I received the original email confirmations, but none after I made my purchases. I am not worried and they should post with in the week. I made my purchases at a store that was on the list.

I got asked why I needed to make 7 different transactions. I just stated that they needed to go on different cards. I thought about explaining myself and decided he wouldn’t care.

Thanks again for posting this.

My confirmation email took 2 days after the purchase to work – I bought gift cards for a great book store in Durham if anyone is interested – The Regulator Bookshop. My sister lives in the area, so I’m just having her pick them up. The online purchase for the store didn’t work, but the purchase that they ran themselves did. I’m sure they would ship a book to you if there is something people want to buy.
