Southwest is offering 35% off flights on the following dates:

  • January 29
  • January 30
  • February 13 (excluding New Orleans)
  • February 19
  • February 20
  • February 26
  • February 27
  • March 5
You must use promotion code THANKYOU and book your flights today before 11:59pm for the respective time zone of the originating city. This promotion applies only to paid tickets and not those using Southwest points. All cities are including for this promotion, except Ft. Myers (not quite sure, but Ft. Myers is excluded from many Southwest promotions). The 35% discount is available on “Wanna Get Away” fares (the cheapest fare class) and is applies before taxes and fees.
Unfortunately, the discount requires roundtrip travel and if one of the ways is outside of the included dates, that way will be charged the full price – the 35% discount only applies to the dates that hit the included list. One way to get around this though if you are looking just for a one way, is to book a roundtrip flight with the outbound flight being your desired date and find any cheap return date. You can then cancel the return and apply the credit for another time. Just remember though, credit is only valid for 1 year from the date the ticket was purchased and is non transferable. While I’ve never done this, you could also try booking the the roundtrip ticket and┬ácanceling┬áthe return flight within 24 hours of the ticket being purchased and getting a full refund back to your method of payment for the return. I do not know if they will cancel the entire itinerary though since it was booked with a promotion code.
While I know the dates are limited, hopefully the promotion works for some of you out there!

  • Gary S said,

When you say “I’ve never done this” are you referring to booking a round trip and cancelling the return, or cancelling within 24 hours? I would like to book a round trip and cancel the return because I’m flying on 2/25 instead of 2/26. But the terms say “Changes made to the itinerary after purchase will eliminate qualifications for this promotion.” I am willing to wait until after I fly out, then cancel the return flight, but am concerned that Southwest will charge me for the difference. What is the likelihood of that?

@Gary – I’ve never booked a roundtrip and cancelled the roundtrip within 24 hours. I HAVE, however, canceled the return after I’ve flown the outbound flight. Southwest will not charge you a difference (at least I never have). You will get a credit for that portion of the flight to use for another time.
