Southwest Extends Double Points and Double Tier Qualifying Points Promotion!

Originally the double points and TQP points promotion was to end today, but has been extended through June 15, 2013 – which is great! Here is the Southwest site announcing it and giving you the link to register.

The two promotions include:

  • Double points on ALL Southwest flights you take! With this promotion you will earn the following points:
    • Wanna Get Away Fares: 12 points per dollar spent (instead of 6 points)
    • Anytime Fares: 20 points per dollar spent (instead of 10 points)
    • Business Select Fares: 24 points per dollar spent (instead of 12 points)
  • Double Tier Qualifying Points (TQPs) on all flights you take! TQPs help you earn Southwest status on revenue flights only. You must earn the following TQPs in a calender year:
    • A-List Status: Must earn 35,000 TQPs or 25 qualifying one-way flights in a calendar year – this will get you priority boarding, priority check-in, standby priority, and 25% bonus on all points earned
    • A-List Preferred Status: Must earn 70,000 TQPs or 50 qualifying one-way flights in a calendar year – this will get you all the benefits of regular A-List status members, flight free in-flight WiFi and a 100% bonus on all points earned
If you’ve already registered for this promotion, you will be automatically enrolled, and no new registration is needed. Now, the terms are a bit conflicting in if you’ll receive the points if you booked travel before registering. There are three different T&C listed, and I have a feeling if they are all referring to the three different promotions that kept on replacing the old promotion. The first one states: “Registration must be completed prior to commencement of travel.” While the second one states, “registration must be completed prior to commencement of travel.  Valid on new reservations only.” With most Southwest promotions you must have registered for the promotion PRIOR TO making the reservation, but with this extension I am not 100% sure. I’ll see what I can find out from Southwest.
Let me know if you have any questions! I know many have Memorial Day travel reserved, so this will essentially give you a 20% rebate in points back on your flight (assuming a Wanna Getaway fare).

This is great news! I fly Southwest almost exclusively for work (being based in Houston) and have already hit A-list Preferred status through 2014. While the double tier points won’t make much difference to me, the double points promo added to A-list preferred status means triple points for the next month for me!

[…] Yesterday Points, Miles, and Martinis listed that there were some new promotions being added for Southwest fliers, but the details were yet unknown. I kept on checking the website, and finally this morning I am now able to see the details and registration link for all three new promotions. This is also in addition to the extension of the Double Points and TQP promotion I announced yesterday. […]

I’m confused with this. My understanding of the original Double TQP to MKE deal was that it was stackable with the double points deal, meaning effectively triple points, with 2/3 of those points counting toward A-list status.

Now that the promotion has been augmented to remove the MKE as the specific destination for TQP, does this mean triple points everywhere between now and June 15?

Would love some clarification here..

(As a side note.. when I booked RT between Oakland and Seattle a couple months ago using the original double points promo, ALL of the points counted toward A-list. Don’t know if anybody else benefited from the same error.)

[…] Also, since some Southwest and AirTran flights are being operated by each other, regardless of which website you book through, this promotion is only valid for those flights booked through AirTran, not Southwest. For flights booked through the Southwest site you’ll earn double Southwest points by registering through their promotion. […]

I received in the snail mail a notice of double points on 2013 summer travel. I made a reservation to fly from Las Vegas to Columbus Ohio on Wed Jul 10,I used my Rapid rewards credit card to pay for this trip. Do I qualify for the double points. I use SWA almost exclusively for travel.

@barbara – I deleted your personal information from your comment so other readers will not have access. To qualify for the promotion you must have registered for the promotion PRIOR to booking your flight. If the cost of the flight has not increased you can cancel and rebook
