$100 Old Navy, Gap, and Banana Republic Gift Card for $85, sorta…

While I typically write about travel deals, those that read this blog often know that I love ANY deal – shopping, groceries, anything! One of my favorite places to get free stuff is CVS. After sales, coupons, and extra care bucks, many times I am able to get a slew of items for free, and if not really really cheap. While I do not typically write about CVS deals…. there is one specific deal from this week I wanted to point out. Those that keep up with the weekly circulars know that CVS deals run Sunday – Saturday, so this specific promotion will expire Saturday August 3, 2013.

At CVS this week you can purchase a $100 gift card to Old Navy, Gap, or Banana Republic and get $15 in Extra Care Bucks. Extra Care Bucks (ECB) are linked to your rewards card and will print out with your receipt. This $15 ECB can then be used on a future purchase. For those that make purchases at CVS often, you can think of this as getting your $100 gift card for $85. One thing to note though is that the $15 ECB must be used on a future purchase of $15 or more, you are not able to break it up into multiple CVS visits/purchases. ECBs do expire, however, I am not sure of this specific expiration date.

Note: Manhattan CVS stores have a different circular, the 12+ page is cut into 4 pages EVERY WEEK so not all deals are available. Unfortunately, this offer is not available in Manhattan, but if you find yourself in one of the borough’s or in the suburbs, you can take advantage.

This is limited to one per card, but if you have multiple cards per household you can stalk up with each card – assuming that you make purchases at one of these three stores often.

For most, this is better than purchasing gift cards at an office supply store (i.e., Staples) and getting 5x points with your Chase Ink Bold or Plus card. The same $100 gift card will give you 400 more points than purchasing at CVS during this deal. You’d need to get about 4 cents per point for it to be a better deal.

NYC is made up of 5 boroughs. Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, and the Bronx. What you meant to write was that the deal is not available in the borough of Manhattan but is available in the other boroughs. We all have Bloomberg as our Mayor and pay NYC income and sales taxes in the other boroughs(although Bloomberg sometimes forgets that)

No fee on the gift cards?

There is no fee for gift cards at CVS that aren’t pre-paid debit cards. Also, my CVS clerks told me that even though ECBs have expiration dates still, they don’t expire. I think there was a court case about it. But I’d check locally before letting them expire and the. trying to use them.

No fee on cards, but most CVS (if not all) stores in NYC will no longer accept a charge card for gift cards. Debit or cash only. The one by me is debit with a max of $75.

Ad says “one per household with card”, not “one per card”. I would read this a only one per household address as long as you have a card. Are you sure a household can get multiple ECB cards?

@carl – I know I have multiple cards in my household. They were opened forever ago though.

Typo on name.

I wasn’t questioning whether it was just one ECB card per household. I was just wondering about the “Extrabucks limit of one per household with card” language in the ad.

Have you used more than one card from same household to get the extras yet?

@carl p – yes, you can absolutely get multiple ecbs, it’s always based on the maximum per card regardless of the language.
