Welcome to another post of helping a reader travel! Sorry I’ve been slacking in this weekly series, but I promise to continue this as many have seemed to benefit from these reader tips. As I’ve mentioned before, I have not been to every destination (unfortunately), but do get questions from friends and other blog readers on all sort of travel destination questions. Thus far, we’ve been able to help other readers travel to MauiThe Greek IslandsPacific Coast HighwayArgentina /Buenos AiresCosta RicaCape Cod & The IslandsIcelandGenevaCanadian RockiesRomeIsraelPeru / Inca Trail StockholmChicagoParisHanoiAustinPuerto RicoBrugesSalzburgIstanbulLas VegasJamaica, India/Golden Triangle, AucklandSingapore, Moscow, The Oregon CoastSeattlePortlandHawaii IslandsAlaska SkiingBrazilPragueBudapestParaguayCabo San LucasEdinburgh, and San Diego.

So this weeks travel destination includes Hilton Head. I received the following email from reader Andrew:

“We are taking a family trip to Hilton Head and are seeking casual restaurants. I’ve secured a pretty sweet golf tee time but still need a few things to do with my wife and one year old baby. Also, we are staying at the Westin, is that a good hotel choice or are there any others you’d recommend. Appreciate if you can help.”

If you’ve ever been to Hilton Head and have any recommendations, let’s help out reader Andrew by commenting below.

Also, if you have any upcoming travel where you need some help, feel free to email me at dealswelike@gmail.com to be a featured “Help a Reader Travel” Monday special. Thanks!

We recently finished a 5 night stay at that Westin(5th free with Starwood points!!).
Our family enjoyed RedFish, Michael Anthonys(very good Italian), Truffles, and for good pizza Mellow Mushroom(just outside Sea Pines).
All were very good, albeit a bit pricey.
Pls email for me more details.
Have fun

The Salty Dog. It’s a Hilton Head staple.

My family stayed at the Westin on a three night stay recently using Starwood points. This hotel recently had renovations completed and it is very nice. Hotel is right on the beach and has a huge pool area. There are 3 different pools and one is actually covered in the event of rain. Perfect location and highly recommended. 10, 0000 pts per night or cash and points go for 5, 000 pts plus $75.

The Westin Hilton Head is a great choice. It’s removed a bit from the main area and gives you a large slice of the beach to yourself. I booked a partial ocean view which was perfect.

Hilton head is a totally underrated vacation spot. Great biking trails and water sports. And don’t forget to check out the lighthouse!

Would highly recommend Skull Creek Boathouse for a meal.

For a unique take on low country food try Roastfish And Cornbread. A local chef owns this spot and he recreates the kind of food he remembers from his grandmother’s kitchen.

We have been to Hilton Head several times for medical conferences. We have stayed at the Marriott Beach and Golf Resort (2 Marriott CC give the points for a 5 night stay) which was on the beach and had both outdoor and indoor pools and kids activities. We always had our 2 boys (5 and 7) with us so we made sure that the restaurants had kids menus. Our favorite restaurants included the Salty Dog and Wreck of the Salty dock, eating on the deck overlooking the harbor; Parrot Cove in Harbor Town, Crazy Crab – eating on the outside porch overlooking the salt marshes, has a playground for kids and periodically has hermit crab races; Stacks Pancake house has great breakfast and lunch, Black Marlin restaurant eating on the outside deck under trees draped in Spanish moss and nearby marsh where the kids can catch small crabs, Hilton Head Diner, which has all kinds of affordable food, Old Oyster Factory overlooking the water for fantastic Scallops and Crab Cakes, the Big Bamboo near Caligny Beach for lunch which is in a recreated South Pacific WW2 Officers Club, Big Hot Mamas for great barbeque, and Mellow Mushroom. Fun things to do, beside the obvious beach and shell searching, included Pirate Adventure Mini Golf, Fantasy mini Golf, Hilton Head Ice Cream Shop, Dolphin boat out of Harbor Town and walking around the shops. Alot of people ride bikes in the area. That is all I can think of off the top of my head, but we always find new places. Also, a number of the restaurants have great discounts on Restaurant.com and on the credit card dining programs. Have Fun!!!!!
