Is the Rocketmiles 2x Miles Promotion Worth a Mattress Run?

Most likely NO! I posted yesterday about a double points promotion through Rocketmiles (a hotel booking sight where you earn a bunch of miles – up to 10,000 miles per night with this promotion). While this promotion is great a) if you were planning on staying at a hotel in the month of October and b) if the rate is equivalent or not much more to a rate you’d get by booking through the hotel directly, many of the hotels in small towns where rates are typically cheap (less than $100/night with a discount, AAA, corporate rate, etc.) are still super expensive. I personally have not found one scenario where a mattress run is worth it (mattress run = staying at a hotel simply for the points/miles that come with it as the benefits outweighs the cost).

Also, as a reminder, this promotion ends tonight and is for hotels booked for the month of October (must check out by October 31st). To learn more about the promotion you can read this prior post.

Has anyone found an opportunity for a mattress run?

I’ve found their prices not only NOT even close to mattress-run worthy but barely worthy even if for a real trip WITH the additional points.

I guess we won’t get the bonus miles even if we book thorough RocketMiles but later adjust to company rate

Thinking about pulling the trigger on a Rocketmiles reservation since it can net me 14K AA miles… hotel rates at the city I’m looking at are all high and the ones I have status with are all charging $400+ a night.

I too have found the prices on that site to be quite high 🙁

I know I’m late to the party, and the promotion is over, but I did find several dates in Vancouver for $275 at the Hyatt Regency and Four Seasons. Booked separately for 10,000 US or UA per night.
