$30 Uber Credit and 20% off Uber Rides in NYC

To celebrate The Salon: Art & Design (no idea what it is, but some exhibit, gala, event, something happening in NYC this weekend), Uber is offering a $20 credit for new Uber users (but really ends up being $30 credit due to the $10 referral credit) and a 20% off promotion for existing Uber users.

I’ve written about Uber before (plenty I know, and I am sure some of you are sick of it, but…) Uber is an “On-demand car service that allows everyone to have a private driver experience through iPhone, SMS, and web based requests.” It is less expensive than a car service, but slightly more expensive than a yellow cab. Your credit card is stored in your account so there is no exchange of money at the end of the ride. Additionally, tip is included and no cash or credit card is needed – everything is linked to your account. The cars are also extremely new/clean, and the company will even text you with the drivers name for extra security.

So now back to the promotion (and make sure to pay attention as there are multiple levels to maximize):

New Users:

  • Sign up for Uber through a referral link. Mine is only giving $10 referral, but find another friend that will give you $20 in free credits.
  • Once you create your account and are signed in, go to the “Promotions” link on the top right-hand corner of the page. Enter the code “TheSalon2013”. This will then give you $20 in free credit. The terms state that this this credit expires on November 24, 103 at 10:47:11am PST (random time, not sure why!). If you are not going to use Uber by this date, then DO NOT create your account and apply the promotional credit. This is because many codes are for new users only, so if you apply the credit and do not use it you will miss the opportunity to get new user credits on your account. UPDATE: new user code KALEB will give you a $20 credit valid until 2015.
  • Again in the “Promotions” page, enter the code “TheSalon20”. This will then give you 20% off your next ride (up to $10 off). The terms state that this promotion expires November 24, 2013 at 10:51:04am PST (another random time!).

Existing Users:

  • Log into your account and in the “Promotions” page, enter the code “TheSalon20”. This will give you 20% off your next Uber ride. The maximum discount is $10 off and the code expires November 24, 2013 at 10:51:04am PST

The Salon: Art & Design website lists these two promotions and gives different expiration dates, however, I’d trust the dates given on the Uber site as that is what is hardcoded into the technology. Anyone outside of NYC successfully able to get 20% off their Uber by using this code?

Enjoy your Uber deal and discounted taxi/car service!

Thanks to reader Terri for letting me know about these two promotions!.

Good stuff, thanks! VFTW also did a write-up on Uber few weeks back with a $40 sign-up bonus in total. http://boardingarea.com/viewfromthewing/2013/10/12/free-40-credit-first-time-uber-demand-car-service-users/

Combine it with Promo Code “TheSalon20” and you can potentially get up to a $48 taxi ride for absolutely free.

Awesome, thanks for this! Has anyone tried signing up for more than one account (using different emails) to get both the existing promo and ‘new account signup’ promo? I’m pretty sure it wouldn’t work but just curious….

@Stacey yes it actually works, you just need to have different phone numbers as well, besides different email addresses. Use Google Voice to get more phone numbers for free.

@mcdullhk88 I’ve tried this but have been unable to verify my google voice number with Uber. has it worked for you?

@Ryan H. Google Voice will not receive Uber’s verification text. So just text “GO” to 827-222 from Google Voice’s website on your computer.
