TODAY ONLY! Small Business Saturday – $10 Statement Credit with Every Registered Amex Card

This is a reminder that today is Small Business Saturday! Register all your Amex credit cards and enjoy some free money! The post below described how to register, and here is an FAQ list.

During small business Saturday (Saturday November 30th) you can get a $10 statement credit when using a registered American Express credit card at participating small businesses in your local community (must spend $10+ with this Amex card). You can only receive one credit per American Express card, but there is no limit to the number of cards you can register. If you have multiple Amex cards and have an expensive purchase, have the local business split the charges amongst the various cards you have!

While the past two years have been $25 statement credit per card, this is still a great promotion. It is after all FREE money! To be eligible, you must  first register for this promotion starting November 24 – this upcoming Sunday. I highly suggest getting your American Express cards together as registration is limited. This is a great way to support your local businesses while also getting something for free – a win-win situation! And don’t worry, I’ll remind you all again on Sunday to register.

And just a side note… unfortunately, corporate cards and prepaid cards are not eligible but all other American Express cards can be registered – another great advantage of an American Express points/miles earning credit card. This includes (just to list a few), Starwood American Express, Hilton American Express, Costco American Express, Bloomingdales American Express, Macy’s American Express, American Express Gold Rewards Card, American Express Platinum Card, Citi AAdvantage American Express, etc. The business versions of these cards also qualify. If you have added authorized users, those cards are also eligible and are separate from the primary card. This, however, does not work for secondary cards that have the same account number which is typically the case for the Citi American Express cards.

I haven’t yet figured out definitely where I will be “shopping” on Small Business Saturday, but most likely a local restaurant. Last year I was able to purchase $150 worth of gift cards for future use.

I will ensure to remind you all to register come November 24!

I am going to be out of the country during Small Business Saturday, do you know if there is any way to make the purchase online and get the credit? I tried to buy jewelry online from a small local business last year, and it didn’t work. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Last year things I had read on some AMEX vendor blogs indicated the businesses weren’t big on this. They said it just brought in a lot of people buying the minimum. There was lot of “Why don’t you just give the money to us if you want to help small business. No big point – I just found it interesting.

Personnally at $10 I don’t see making any extra effort.

@Kelly – I would try contacting a local business you like and arranging ahead of time for them to sell you a gift card on Saturday. Then you can pick it up when you come back to the States.

Im pretty sure if a business is NOT on the map, you can still get credit. At least, that’s how it worked last year.
