The end of the month and a calendar year means that many many many promotions are coming to an end. December 31, 2013 marks the last day to…

  • Take advantage of many of the American Express Sync promotions. There are a bunch of Amex Sync promotions that are ending and even if you are not planning to shop at the merchant by 12/31, you can still purchase a gift card, receive the statement credit, and use the gift card at a future date.     • Get free food through With an Amex Sync promotion you’ll get a $5 statement credit with a $25+ gift card purchase. You’ll also get a $5 credit as a new subscriber. Related blog post
    • Get $25 free at, iTunes, Best Buy, or make money with Visa gift cards. With the Best Buy Amex Sync promotion you’ll get a $25 statement credit with a $250+ purchase. My local Best Buy even sells Visa gift cards which will trigger the statement credit. Related blog post
  • Earn your 5x points with your Chase Freedom credit card at select department stores and The Q4 bonus of Chase’s 2013 bonus categories is coming to an end and you can get 5x points at participating department stores and (up to $1,500 in spend). Remember, you can always purchase gift cards to both stores (for example Macy’s) and Remember, the Chase Freedom credit card is offering an enhanced sign up bonus of $200 after meeting the minimum spend requirements. Related blog post
  • Use your American Express Platinum incidental credit. Remember this is only for those who are American Express Platinum cardholders, but every calendar year you get $200 in incidental credits. With many airlines you can actually get reimbursed for gift card purchases! Related blog post
  • Earn a 20% bonus when transferring Amex Membership Reward points to British Avios points. British Airways Avios is one of the better partners for the Amex Membership Rewards program and getting a 20% bonus on your transfer is great! This type of promotion happens quite often, however, with this partner, so there is a good chance we will see this promotion again. Related blog post
  • Request your free Hilton Gold status if you are an American Express Platinum card member. Gold status at Hilton is actually one of the better mid-tier statuses where you will get complimentary breakfast, free internet, and the possibility of an upgraded room and lounge access. If you are a card holder no reason not to call the Amex Platinum line and get your Hilton status through March 2015. Related blog post
  • Purchase American Airline miles with a 50% bonus. While I do not like speculatively purchasing miles, this is good if the price to purchase miles is cheaper than the price to actually purchase a ticket. Usually works out better for business or first class tickets. Related blog post
  • Purchase Delta MQMs towards status. You can purchase between 2,500 and 10,000 Medallion Qualification Miles (MQMs) that will post to you 2013 MQM balance and apply towards your 2014 status. The cost will depend on your current status, so you might see a different price tag than someone else (can hover around $1,000 though so make sure you really will utilize the status if you do purchase!). Related blog post
  • Purchase Amtrak points with a 30% bonus. You can purchase up to 10,000 Amtrak points per account per year. To get the 30% bonus you must purchase the maximum (lesser amounts result in a lower bonus). With this promotion, you can purchase 10,000 points (for a total of 13,000 points) for $275. This will get you 3 one-way Amtrak tickets in the Northeast for a net result of $91 each way (you’ll also have 1,000 points left over). Related blog post
  • Take advantage of the Amex Sync promotion. This promotion will give you a $25 statement credit on a $75+ purchase at (purchasing gift cards do count!). Unfortunately this promotion is only valid for those who already synced their card as the enrollment limit has been met. Related blog post
  • Purchase Hyatt gift cards at 10% off. You can purchase up to $2,000 in Hyatt gift cards to get the 10% off. Use promotion code GPGIFT. Related blog post
  • Get a $5 statement credit for writing a TripAdvisor review. This will take about .2 minutes of your time! All you need to do is review a restaurant, merchant, hotel, ANYTHING on TripAdvisor and you will get a $5 statement credit on your registered American Express credit card. Related blog post
  • Earn 1,000 Hilton Honors points for booking a reservation through the Hilton iPhone app. All Hilton stays booked through the Hilton iPhone app will earn a 1,000 point bonus as long as the reservation is booked by 12/31/2013 for a stay that is completed by 12/31/2014. If you’ve already booked a stay and the rate hasn’t gone up, feel free to cancel (assuming it is a refundable fare) and re-book. Related blog post
  • Register for American Airlines “Elite Rewards”. While you have until February 28, 2014 to actually select your desired award, you must register for this promotion by 12/31/2013. Related blog post
