Welcome to another post of helping a reader travel! This weekly post is to help readers get a slew of travel advice from thousand of Deals We Like blog readers. Thus far, we’ve been able to help other readers travel to MauiThe Greek IslandsPacific Coast HighwayArgentina /Buenos AiresCosta RicaCape Cod & The IslandsIcelandGenevaCanadian RockiesRomeIsraelPeru / Inca Trail StockholmChicagoParisHanoiAustinPuerto RicoBrugesSalzburgIstanbulLas VegasJamaica, India/Golden TriangleAucklandSingapore, Moscow, The Oregon CoastSeattlePortlandHawaii IslandsAlaska SkiingBrazilPragueBudapestParaguayCabo San LucasEdinburghSan DiegoHilton HeadDubrovnik, TanzaniaThe SeychellesBelize, MiamiViennaLondonTahitiMt. A few weeks ago many readers wrote in asking for Italy in general due to the sub $150 fares from Newark to Milan. While I already did a post dedicated to Rome last year, I wanted to hit on the other major tourist cities in Italy as well to help those readers that will be heading to Italy soon, and for cheap! This will include VeniceFlorenceMilanBologna, Sicily, etc. (let me know of this are any other cities you want me to cover)

This week is going to be dedicated on Sicily. Here are some things I am sure readers will want suggestions on:

  • Where to stay?
  • How many days to stay
  • Sites to see
  • Recommended restaurants
  • Anything else you might think is valuable!

If you’ve ever been to Italy, specifically Sicily, let’s help out many Deals We Like readers! This will be my last Italy post in the series, so let me know if there are any other cities you want me to cover. I will do the Amalfi Coast at another time, do not worry!

Also, if you have any upcoming travel where you need some help, feel free to email me at dealswelike@gmail.com to be a featured “Help a Reader Travel” Monday special. Thanks!

Having traveled quite a bit in Italy Sicily is by far my favorite. Some thoughts on where to visit in no particular order

1. scopello beach
2. Agrigento ruins
3. Ragusa for the sites and the food (il duomo)
4. Taormina at least once
5. Mt Etna and her wineries

Hotels to make time for include the Orient Express in taormina, the La Foresteria in Menfi and the villa Athena in Agrigento.

Spent 6 months traveling in Sicily some years back, and here are the highlights:

– The Greco-Roman ruins of Catania and Agrigento are a must see.
– The parks & national reserves around Mt. Etna for the nature lovers.
– Noto, south of Syracusa, for the world’s best Baroque architecture.
– Trapini’s salt flats and the town of San Vito Lo Capo with its sandy white beaches and Moorish style architecture.
– The mountainous walled city of Erice (near Trapini) with its Roman & Norman ruins.
– Mazara Del Vallo south of Marsala on the west coast with its beautiful church (Chiesa di San Michele Arcangelo) and the Tunisian quarter by the Norman-built Duomo.
