Positive Changes to Earning Hertz Elite Status

Hertz has made some positive changes to their program and has decreased the number of rentals you need to earn elite status.

  •  7 rentals qualifies for Five Star status; previously you needed 10 rentals (you can also earn this status by spending $1,500-3,999 with Hertz)
  • 20 rentals qualifies for Presidents Club status; previously you needed 40 rentals (you can also earn this status by spending $4,000+ with Hertz)

Hertz is similar to hotel and airline status programs where qualifying for elite status starts on January 1 and ends on December 31 of the same calendar year. Your elite status will go into affect the month after you qualify – for example if you qualify July 7, 2014, your status will not be updated until August 1, 2014. Your elite status will then be available to you the remainder of that calendar year, plus the entire following calendar year.

What does elite status get you?

  • Hertz Five Star status:
    • One-car-class upgrade (subject to availability)
    • 675 bonus points after every 15th qualifying rental
    • 10% bonus on all Gold Plus Rewards Points
  • Hertz Presidents Circle:
    • Guaranteed reservations at participating locations (must give a minimum of 48 hours advance notice)
    • Guaranteed one-car-class upgrade
    • 675 bonus points after every 15th qualifying rental
    • 25% bonus on all Gold Plus Rewards Points

For those looking to achieve Hertz status this is a great enhancement!

I like earning Hertz status and points, but can’t understand why they do it strctly on a rental basis and not on a days basis. I may only rent five times a year, but each time is for a week.
