UPDATE: The giveaway has ended as Delta just announced their new award chart for 2015. The winners include:

  1. Commenter #20, Richard who said, “Award redemption levels will likely appear reasonable, but it all comes down to actual availability / lack thereof!”
  2. Tweeter #1, Christo who said, “Minor changes on award redemptions I’m sure. @Delta is has caused enough of an uproar already; anything major is suicide.”

Please contact me at dealswelike@gmail.com to claim your $25 Amazon.com gift card!

I wrote about the Delta award chart changing last week and that the new chart starting on January 1, 2015 is to be announced later this year. Well, it seems like Fall has come early and I’ve read many places that at noon today Delta will be posting this new award chart. If this is true, at least we will have ample time to use our miles!

So what are your predictions? What do you think the new award chart will look like? Good or bad changes? Comment below or Tweet me with your thoughts. I will select two winners to receive a $25 Amazon gift card each (one from the blog comments and one from Twitter).

Let the speculation begin!

I predict a surprisingly good chart and, ultimately, better availability.

I actually think they improve inventory of the two lowest levels.

Just using prior SkyPeso history, I can only expect this to be terrible. The “new” levels will only make the old levels look better, though will have no true availability. Fingers crossed that I’m wrong!

I think they will continuing allowing use of miles anywhere, but we will see multiple award classes and it will all be re-gifted as another enhancement!

Given deltas history it will for sure be bad!

I expect the mileage cost to go down, and better reflect an actual ticket booking for that segment.
Also, they will probably improve availability of seats as a marketing ploy to compensate for the negative publicity from changing the miles earning structure.

Whatever it is, it will be fine. Delta is still my first choice in airlines.

With Delta, I only see this being bad.

I don’t think the changes will be horrible, in fact, there might be a few silver linings. That said – can anything really be worse than the recent changes?

I expect very little availability at the lowest award level, and that alone won’t be good.

I suspect it will be bad. Delta certainly has a history of devaluing its award program and chart with a divergence, and I don’t see why this would be any different.

I’m predicting they end up rolling out the new award chart before 1/1/15.

I suspect the changes will be positive though probably not enough so to offset the years of bad news.

I am bracing for the worst but am anxious to see the possible cash and miles option.

US domestic flights will remain the same but you will see further increases to Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East. It also wouldn’t shock me if they instituted a new award chart for partners just like United

I’m thinking the price of US and Canada redemptions will go down – maybe more in line with British Airways. I think Europe and Asia will go up drastically while Australia will be unchanged.

Low mileage redemption.

Given everything else, I’m going to have to say “bad”!

About the same, little availability at high and low end…

I think there will be some initial notable decent award space for low level … and then it will virtually disappear within a week or two.

The changes will almost assuredly be ‘bad’. That said, I expect it to be similar to BA’s switch to Avios in that some savvy individuals are able to identify some pockets of good.

Although this won’t be known today or tomorrow, I expect the new levels to equate to paying more for what you can already get today with availability at cheaper levels reduced.

I am a total optimist in life but I fully expect the new award chart to be horrible. I expect this will be especially so for non-economy seats.

Similar to the IRS:

“How many skypesos do you have?”
“send them in (and we MIGHT put you on standby for the worst possible schedule and routing)”

Before the new chart comes out their points miles were already called sky pesos I can’t imagine it getting any worse?!? If I had to guess, it will be a huge devaluation by 20%?

I think good and bad. Award availability will go up, but so will the miles needed to get the award flight (my guess is that the miles needed will go up around 10-15% for each level). Yes, a THIRD award deval!

So far the new changes have been bad this year, so I’m hoping for something good … especially in the lower levels.

I think there will be more availability, but will take more miles.

I’m hoping for better award inventory. And maybe they’ll even allow F awards on partners (we can only wish).

Jay

I think it will stay just about the same but I am hoping that it will not take more miles!

Benny

Well based on recent changes, they’ve struck out each time and see the same for this!

I’m going to play devil’s advocate and say that the changes will be worse than many of us imagining – maybe not a difficult feat given some optimism in the comments…

Sadly I think the changes will be negative, it seems that every program is heading in this direction.

I think availability will be better, but the points required will be higher. Hope I am wrong!
