Southwest is currently having a sale where flights start “as low as $69″. While fare sales are great the “as low as” part always gets me. While fare sales are great, I sometimes take them to be a marketing ploy. With that being said, I always double check flights that I’ve already booked to see if the price has gone down. This sale is for flights booked through March 24, 2014 for travel April 1 through June 7, 2014.
I have a few future Southwest flights booked and unfortunately the prices did not go down during this sale, but I did get my points back twice already during the past two fare sales!
With this fare sale, a flight I already have booked to Florida actually went down in price from $119 to $109. Of course I booked on points, so I was able to rebook my flight and get 558 points credited back to my account.
If you already have a Southwest flight already booked for a flight that decreased in price, you can get back the difference with no change fees:
- For paid flights, you will receive a voucher for the difference to be used one year from the date the flight was purchased. This voucher is non-transferable. If you made your flight within the past 24 hours, the difference will go back to your credit card.
- For flights booked with points, the difference in points will go back into your account. You can re-book your original flight online to get this voucher/point difference credited – no phone call is needed.
You can learn more about getting your money/points back with a Southwest flight in this prior detailed post.
