IHG Mystery Bonus Purchase Points Offer

InterContinental Hotels Group is offering a bonus when purchasing points through April 21, 2014. This is a targeted offer giving you 25%, 50%, 75%, or 100% bonus when purchasing points. Depending on the offer you receive, this could be a good or bad deal!

So let’s assume you are planning to purchase within the 26,000-60,000 point range where every 1,000 points costs $11.50. With the bonus offer you will essentially be purchasing points at the following rate:

  • 25% bonus = .92 cents per point
  • 50% bonus = .77 cents per point
  • 75% bonus = .66 cents per point
  • 100% bonus = .58 cents per point

This promotion is only potentially worthwhile at the 75% and 100% bonus mark. Since you can purchase points at .7 cents a piece through a roundabout method at long as you have at least 5,000 points in your account, there is no real reason to purchase points at a higher rate. You can purchase points here.

To see if it is worthwhile for a particular hotel, you’ll have to see the number of points it requires and the lowest rate.

I was personally targeted for the 50% promotion so I will definitely be sitting this one out. Was anyone targeted for the 75% or 100% bonus promotion and will you be taking advantage?

Thanks to Frequent Flyer Bonuses for letting me know of this promotion!

I got the 100 percent. Think it is worth it to buy? $690 for 120K points.

I got the 100% as well, I’m an IHG Platinum Ambassador as well and wonder how they’re targeting. Same question as Michael above, is it worth investing in this with 100% and also how many times can one buy? Can I do multiple transactions or is there a cap for the amount of points one can buy per year at IHG?

I have been targeted for the 100% promo but don’t have a redemption in mind. Does it still make sense to buy points? On the other hand I am taking part in the big win which is worth 90K points and doing mattress runs for 6 nights costing upto 600$. CPM is about .06 for that.

I got the 100 (plat. ambassador, but through cc and points purchase). If I could find availability at either of the Intercons in London, either in Paris or the one in Amsterdam, I feel like it would be a great deal. Average-ish prices for these hotels are regularly +€400/night, and for 40k points, you could potentially get €1600 in value out of those 120k points.

I’m going to do a quick search to see if I can churn up any options. Also about to complete the big win (75k) which would, all in, leave me with 325k points. Seems like a little bit of overkill actually……..

I got 100% IHG Platium Ambassador. I am probably going to buy it given that I have only 7K points left in my account (used 250K pts for 5 nights for my upcoming stay at IC Westminister!) and probably will be buying even more later on (5/19?) when the Daily Getaway deals come out. I am glad that buying the IHG pts aren’t as competitive as buying the Hyatt!

If you are redeeming at the IC Legrand in Paris and figure two nights at 100K for $540 ($690 – 20K points at $140 is $550) — that is a nice redemption as the rooms go for 500 euros a night. So maybe I will do it.

Got 100% but already have more than 500,000, so I will likely pass on the offer.

Got 100%, but also have 500K points now. I think I’ll pass.

First year demoted from plat to gold. 100%. Bought 31,000 + 31,000 bonus. Will this get me my plat status back?
