Yesterday I posted my top credit cards for April. As a reminder these compile a list that are not only the top cards, but also newly announced and soon to be expired cards. In that list I had the American Express Platinum card as they just came out with a 40,000 point offer after meeting the minimum spend requirements. While this is one of the better public offers we’ve seen for this card, I was reminded that there is in fact a slightly better offer for a similar version of the card.
The Platinum Card® from American Express Exclusively for Mercedes-Benz has a sign up offer of 50,000 Membership Reward points after spending $3,000 within the first three months. This is 10,000 more points then the regular Amex Platinum offer and the same minimum spend requirement.
The main difference is that this card has a $475 annual fee while the regular Amex Platinum card has a $450 annual fee. So for $25 more dollar you’ll earn an extra 10,000 bonus points. So while I’d definitely spend $25 for 10,000 MR points this is only a benefit or the first year only. Thereafter, you will spend $25 a year but no additional points to make up for the higher fee.
This Mercedes-Benz Platinum card comes with the same perks as the regular Platinum card, i.e., $200 annual incidental statement credit, access to select airport lounges, global entry fee reimbursement, etc. (you can check out all the benefits here).
There are also benefits of having this card if you own or lease a Mercedes-Benz card. None are of personal interest to me, but you can check them out on the application page.
Keep in mind though that some folks have received targeted offers for as high as 100,000 Membership Reward points (possibly even 150,000 points) after signing up. So if you are in no rush for this card, you can always hold out and hope you receive one of the targeted offers.
