Southwest is currently having a sale where flights start “as low as $69″. While fare sales are great, the “as low as” part always gets me. With fare sales I always double check flights that I’ve already booked to see if the price has gone down. It’s also a good opportunity to look into flights that you’ve been meaning to book. Also, with this particular fare sale, my sister was able to jump on a fare that dropped about $100, and a reader just commented on another post saying he saved $76!
If you already have a Southwest flight booked for a flight that decreased in price, you can get back the difference with no change fees:
- For paid flights, you will receive a voucher for the difference to be used one year from the date the flight was purchased. This voucher is non-transferable.
- For flights booked with points, the difference in points will go back into your account. You can re-book your original flight online to get this voucher/point difference credited – no phone call is needed.
My favorite thing about Southwest is if you have points, you can speculatively book flights and if you need to cancel there are no fees at all! The points just go right back into the account they were booked from.
