Tomorrow’s Daily Getaway promotion (Week 2, Day 1) is offering the opportunity to purchase IHG Reward points at a discount. IHG Reward points can be used at any InterContinental Hotel Group brand which includes: InterContinental, Crowne Plaza, hotel Indigo, EVENT hotels, Holiday Inn, Staybridge Suites, and Candlewood Suites.

With this offer you can get:

  • 100,000 IHG Rewards Club Points for $630 (1,000 available); cost = .63 cents per point – you can purchase a maximum of 3
  • 15,000 IHG Rewards Club Points for $100 (2,500 available); cost = .67 cents per point – you can purchase a maximum of 5
  • 25,000 IHG Rewards Club Points for $167 (2,000 available); cost = .68 cents per point – you can purchase a maximum of 4
  • 50,000 IHG Rewards Club Points for $325 (1,250 available); cost = .65 cents per point – you can purchase a maximum of 4

With these four packages you are purchasing points between .63 and .68 cents per point. But, if you pay with an American Express credit card that can bring the cost down to as low as .57 cents per point. The cheapest you are able to purchase IHG points on a daily basis through a roundabout method is .7 cents per point, so this can definitely be a great deal. However, like all point offers, I do not suggest purchasing speculatively. Programs can devalue and you do not want to be stuck with points that you ultimately do not need.

The great thing about this offer is that there are a slew available! And, if you miss out on purchasing the points Monday, there is another opportunity on Thursday June 5th.

Example of where this is a good deal: You can purchase 100,000 points for $567. That will get you two free nights at the InterContinental in Rome for example. This means each night will cost $283 which includes all taxes. Even during the most off-peak time, you most likely will never be able to find a room at this hotel that cheap.

Remember, IHG has many Point Break hotels where there is an entire list of hotels that only cost 5,000 points a night! It is a great opportunity to stay for cheap if there is a hotel on the list that you are looking to stay at (typically do not include the high end hotels!).

This deal will go on sale at 1pm EST TOMORROW Monday May 26th. This will be a popular offer, but due to the number available I believe if you are looking to take advantage you’ll be able to do so. I still suggest being at your computer at 1pm on the dot just to make sure. Also remember, like all other Daily Getaway promotions, you’ll receive 10% off the purchase price if you use any American Express credit card!

Redemptions with the IHG program as far as the benefits are concerned are not that great. You only get a standard room regardless of your status with IHG.

I am Platinum Ambassador, and yet I had to buy a club access on my recent award stay and the upgrade was not all that good. Perhaps my experience was a one time occurrence and a case of YMMV, but I believe that the IHG loyalty program itself is inferior to the the other major players.
