I received an email yesterday letting me know that Uber has partnered up with American Express. If you use an Amex credit card that earns Membership Reward points, you’ll earn 2x points when using your card to pay for your ride.
You must, however, enroll in the promotion. Open your Uber app and click the “Enroll Me” button that pops up. Make sure you have your Membership Reward earning American Express credit card on file to earn the 2x points.  You also have the option for redeeming your points to cover your Uber ride, but the redemption value is not very good at all and I do not recommend it.
While 2x points is great, I still do not think it is the best card to use for earning points with Uber rides. With your Chase Sapphire Preferred card you earn 2x points on all travel (which Uber is included in this category). Also, you earn a yearly 7% bonus on all points earned, so in actuality you are earning 2.14 points per dollar spent. I also value Ultimate reward points more than Membership Reward points.
