US Airways 100% Bonus when Sharing Miles is Back… But Not as Good

US Airways is offering a 100% bonus when you share your miles. While typically this is a really really good promotion (and still might be for some), US Airways has altered the promo slightly and raised the price to share miles, so this is not nearly as good as it used to be.

You can share up to 50,000 miles with another account, and that account will get half of the 100% bonus and your account will get the other half. So if you go all in and share 50,000 miles, your account will get 25,000 miles while the account you are transferring to will get 75,000 miles (the 50,000 miles that were transferred in from your account + half of the 100% bonus which is 25,000 miles).

You can only share miles in 1,000 mile increments at $15 per 1,000 miles. It used to be $10 per 1,000 miles, so the cost of sharing miles has gone up 50%! You also pay  a $30 fee per transaction plus 7.5% tax. This makes the total cost $836.25 (which includes all taxes/fees). In the past this exact same promotion cost a total of $567.50 when maxing out! And, in the past it was a much simpler transaction with the recipient receiving the entire 100% bonus.

So I wouldn’t suggest purchasing miles speculatively, but if you do the math and it is cheaper to share miles with a friend/family member instead of paying cash for a ticket then this can be worth it. You can share miles here.

Thanks to View from the Wing for sharing this promotion!
