Club Carlson is running yet another 24-hour “Flash Sale” where you can purchase points and get a 75% bonus. THis is the 3rd time this promotion has been offered in the past two weeks and my gut assumption is that this might be your last opportunity to get in on the deal. This sale ends 5:29pm EDT today Friday June 27, 2014.

With this promotion you can purchase up to 40,000 points (as that is the calendar year limit). With the sale you can get another 30,000 points if you purchase the maximum allowed for a total of 70,000 points. This will cost you $280, or $0.004 a point. If you already purchased the max last week, you are not able to take part in this promotion for the same account.

Whether or not this is a good deal depends on your upcoming travel plans. If you are looking to stay in an expensive European hotel, for example, this could provide you with a way to stay for cheaper. The cost to purchase 50,000 points (which is the number of points needed to stay in a standard room at a top category hotel) is $203. Many hotels are MUCH MUCH more expensive that $203/night including tax in Europe. Of course you need to check award availability and do the math for your particular stay. This can also be a way to purchase the number of points needed to top off your account for a specific award in mind.

Now where this can turn into an amazing deal is if you have the Club Carlson credit card as one of the huge perks of the card is a free night tacked onto every award stay. This means you could stay two nights for 50,000 points total or $101.50/night. Chances are you definitely won’t be able to beat that rate for a top hotel. You can read more about this credit card and the perks here.

For example, both my husband and I purchased this deal last year and have the credit card. The credit card bonus is 85,000 points after you meet the minimum spend requirement. Ultimately with the credit card bonus and purchasing the points we each had a total of 155,000 points in our account. We are using those points for a stay in Aruba over Christmas time. We are staying two nights under his name, then two nights under my name, then again two nights under his name, and another two nights under my name. That means we are staying 8 nights, but since we made four separate 2-night stays, every other night is free due to the credit card perk. So we are ultimately paying for 4 nights in total, using 100,000 points from each account. The hotel is charging over $400/night for a room, so we are getting an incredible value on our purchased points and the credit card sign up bonus!

Read this post from a last week to see whether or not this is actually a good “deal” for you – I personally think it is a great DEAL!
