Southwest announced its international service earlier this year, but the first flight did not take off until this morning. I am beyond excited for these current international destinations and more excited to see the expanded service in the next few years.

Here is the schedule of what is to come:

  • Southwest Airlines service to Aruba, Montego Bay, and Nassau begins on July 1, 2014.
  • Southwest Airlines service to Cancun and Cabo San Lucas/Los Cabos begins on August 10, 2014
  • Southwest Airlines service to Mexico City and Punta Cana begins on November 2, 2014

To celebrate the start of this service, Southwest has a promotion where you can save up to $200 on vacation packages to Mexico and the Caribbean. While I do not typically purchase flights and hotels together, you can check it out to see if there are any worthwhile deals.

Promotion terms: Book a flight + hotel vacation package for three or more nights, and save up to $200 ($25 per night, up to eight nights) per reservation when using promotion code VACATION4U at the time of booking. Must book by July 14, 2014 at 6pm CT for travel July 4, 2014 through January 4, 2015.

Anyone have any Southwest international travel coming up? I will be taking advantage of their service to Aruba later there year where I am able to use points + a companion pass for free travel (plus taxes of $72.50).
