Back in June I posted about a great Amex Offer where targeted accounts received a $10 back statement credit for spending $50 or more at a grocery stores. And the best part about this offer is that you can take advantage of it three times!! This great offer which was targeted to some accounts in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Florida, and California is ending today, July 14, 2014!
Since I didn’t have three separate purchases of $50 or more at my local grocery store, I simply purchased three $50 gift cards to then use at a future time! I even made those purchases one after another, but in different transactions. So $150 worth of gift cards ended up only costing me $120! I will take a 20% savings on my grocery purchases any day!
From the terms, a “Supermarket” means:
“A store who primary business comes from the sale of a variety of foods such as meat, fresh produce, dairy, canned and packaged goods, but also sells items such as household products, pharmacy products and pet supplies. The following are NOT considered supermarkets: specialty food stores, small grocery stores, gourmet shops, convenience stores, drug stores, natural food stores and superstores including warehouse clubs, big box stores, and hypermarkets.”
So while I did not personally attempt any of the excluded list, it looks like Costco, CVS, etc. will not trigger the statement credit. For those in NYC I’d also caution you with those speciality stores, bodega’s, etc. I had success at my local Fairway. If you have already received a statement credit, feel free to post the store where you had success. From the accounts I checked, it seems like this offer will only appear on one of your American Express credit cards. For me and my family members, it was the one we primarily use. This offer is not available via Twitter, but you must go into your AmericanExpress.com account, go to the “American Express Offers for You” tab, and then click “Save Offer”. You can read more about the steps to do this in this prior post.
