UPDATE: This offer has expired.

American Express just launched a new offer with four of their credit cards – in addition to the regular sign up bonus of earning Membership Reward points, you’ll also get a year of Amazon Prime membership. The four cards include:

  • The Amex EveryDay® Credit Card from American Express
  • The Amex EveryDay® Preferred Credit Card from American Express
  • Blue Cash Everyday® Card from American Express
  • Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express

This Amazon Prime membership is part of the sign up bonus, so those who already have the cards unfortunately will not receive this membership. While I personally would not get this card solely due to the Amazon Prime offer, this is a nice perk for these four cards. They also all offer a sign on bonus, but is very minimal compared to other card offers out there.

The cards offer their own advantages for many reasons. First off, they are American Express cards so another card to utilize with the numerous American Express Offers promotions that I often write about. Two of these cards (Amex EveryDay and Blue Cash EveryDay) have no annual fee so earning a statement credit with a card that doesn’t cost you anything is amazing! It can literally be thought of as free money! And all authorized users can also take advantage of the Amex Offers statement credits!

The Amex EveryDay and Amex EveryDay Preferred cards are great alternatives to other Amex Membership Reward earning credit cards. That is because these two cards gives you “Premier” Membership Reward points, which means you are able to transfer your points to partner loyalty program. Many of the Membership Reward earning point cards give you “Limited” Membership Reward points and does not allow you to transfer points to a partner program. These two cards also have lower fees than (and the non-Preferred version of this card has no annual fee) the other “Premier” Membership Reward points earning cards. These two cards also give you a nice bonus for many every day purchases, plus a bonus for “swiping” your card a certain number of times per month. You can read more about this card and the benefits in this prior blog post.

The Blue Cash Everyday and Blue Cash Everyday Preferred gives you a nice bonus for purchases at a U.S. supermarket and U.S. gas station. The Preferred version of the card actually gives you one of the highest spend bonuses at U.S. supermarkets at 6% cash back.  For those who frequent the grocery store, this is a nice card to have in your wallet! You can learn more about the best credit cards for common purchases here and will see that these two cards are ranked very high for these two categories.

Out of the four cards, if you were going to get one card, I personally recommend the Amex EveryDay. The reason for this is the no annual fee, the ability to keep an active Membership Reward account with full access, and to earn statement credits with the many Amex Offers. And on top of it, you still get Amazon Prime membership for the year ($99 value) and 10,000 Membership Reward points (which I value at an average $175, but minimum value is $100). Now, if you are going to use the card as your everyday card (and shop frequently at U.S. supermarkets and U.S. gas stations), the Preferred card might be better for you. You just need to make sure the $95 annual fee is worth it over the free version of the card. This means you need to earn at least 9,500 MORE points a year than you would with the non-Preferred version.

What does Amazon Prime actually get you? Amazon Prime typically costs $99 a year ($49 a year if you are student) and gives you:

  • Free two-day shipping.
  • Unlimited streaming of movies and videos with Amazon Instant Video.
  • One free borrowed e-book per month from the Kindle Owners Lending Library.
  • Access to Amazon Mom where you can currently get up to 20% off diapers, 15% baby registry completion discount, and 20% off participating household items when you order 5+ items as “Subscribe and Save”

I personally LOVE my Amazon Prime membership and share it with other members of my family. Amazon Prime membership can be shared with up to four people!
