UPDATE: This post has been totally updated from this mornings post (if you happened to read it). I totally misread the promotion in the CVS circular this morning. The below post is now accurate.

At CVS stores this week, if you purchase $30 worth of participating items, you can receive a free $10 gift card. You get to select one of the following for your free gift card: CVS, American Express, iTunes, Darden Restaurant, or Macy’s.

CVS $10 Gift Card

Now, this promotion is really only worthwhile if you actually need $30 of the participating items. However, there is a way to pay a lot less for the merchandise and still get the free $10 gift card. The $30 total required is pre-coupons. So if you have coupons for any of the items it will make your out of pocket cost much less. To find coupons, you can check the Sunday paper and coupons.com. With coupons.com you can print out two coupons per item per computer.

Popular participating items include:

  • Tide detergent - there is a $2 off coupon for this in Sunday paper; there is a $1 off coupon at www.cvs.com/tide; there is a $2 off two at coupons.com
  • Bounty select a size paper towels - there is a $0.25 off coupon in the Sunday paper
  • Charmin toilet paper - there is a $0.25 off coupon in the Sunday paper; there is a $0.35 off coupon at coupons.com; there is a $0.25 coupon at coupons.com
  • Herbal Essence shampoo and conditioner - there is a $1 off coupon at coupons.com
  • Duracell batteries
  • Gillette disposable razors - $3 off coupon in the Sunday paper; there is a $1 off coupon at coupons.com
  • ALL liquid detergent
  • Snuggles detergent

There are other participating items as well, but I thought the above are more common household items. You can check out the entire circular here. If done right, you can probably spend about $15, get the $30 worth of products and the $10 gift card of your choice.

The gift card promotion is limited to one per ExtraBucks account, but if you have multiple cards you can maximize your free CVS gift card earnings! Enjoy!

Darden Restaurants include: Olive Garden, LongHorn Steakhouse, Bahama Breeze, Seasons 52, The Capital Grill, Eddie V’s, and Yard House.

Interesting that they are giving actual CVS giftcards and not ECB.

I was not aware that $30 Amex GC’s were available?

I believe you’re misunderstanding the promotion. You have to spend $30 on participating products throughout the store and then CVS will let you choose a $10 gift card from one of those purveyors. It’s basically spend $30, get $10 back….but you have to buy only certain products.

Where are you seeing no purchase fees on Amex gift cards??

This is for a $10 gift card of one of those five listed if you buy $30 of certain items in the store, I just came back from there.

I would like to know more about this “no purchase fees” on AMEX as well.

This post in inaccurate. I work at CVS 7042 in Durham, NC. The ad states that the marked items with a $10 gift card symbol are participating products. $30 of purchases of those participating products earns you one of the five listed gift cards. The waived American express fee is talking about the prepaid cards, not that particular sale.
