Chase Matched the Better IHG Bonus for Me!

A few weeks ago I wrote that there was a better IHG credit card offer available, although extremely targeted. The current publicly available offer is 70,000 points after spending $1,000 within the first three months. Side note: This offer was slated to expire March 31, but has been extended to May 31, 2015The better targeted offer, however, is offering 80,000 points plus a $50 statement credit. Some folks have received this offer in the mail, while others can see this offer when they sign into your IHG account during booking a reservation. For me personally, I actually only see a 60,000 point offer when signed into my IHG account!

I just applied for this card under the 70,000 point offer a few weeks. UPDATE: The publicly available offer is now offering 60,000 points. Although, a few days after I applied, I found out about this better offer. I immediately sent Chase a secure message and asked them if they would be able to match the sign up offer. Chase is typically very good at matching sign up offers if you you’ve applied for the card within the past 90 days.

My message stated:

IHG Credit Card

They responded with:

IHG Credit CardWhile they were not able to give me the $50 statement credit, they were able to give me the extra 10,000 points after I hit the minimum spend required. I am perfectly content with this!

As I mentioned in a previous post, I am actually very annoyed at myself for taking this long to apply for the card. On top of the sign up bonus offer, the card comes with a free night at ANY IHG hotel annually! This is a great benefit since the card only carries a $49 annual fee. That means by paying $49 you can get a free night at the InterContinental Bora Bora, for example, that obviously goes for way more a night!

So if you recently applied for this card, I highly suggest contacting Chase to see if they are willing to match the 80,000 point bonus offer. More points is always a nice surprise!

I know you mentioned calling chase, but I know there are a bunch of contacts out there. If you could point me in the right direction that would be awesome! thanks! love ur posts!

Thank you so much for sharing this! I had recently applied for the IHG credit card with the 70k bonus and was bummed to hear about the better offer after. I followed the steps that you took and send a secure message asking to match the better offer. They said they would give the extra 10k points but not the $50 statement credit like you experienced. Easy way to get extra points and I wouldn’t have even tried if it weren’t for me coming across this post. Thanks!
