10,000 Extra IHG Points Just for Asking!

Back in March, I wrote about a targeted offer for the InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) Credit Card. While the publicly available offer is currently 60,000 points, some folks are able to see a 80,000 point offer (plus a $50 statement credit) when signing into their IHG account and making a hotel reservation. At that time, I had just applied for the IHG credit card (when the offer was for 70,000 points), but only for an inferior offer as there was no better offer given to me in my IHG account.

While the difference in points wasn’t huge, I went ahead and sent Chase a secure offer asking them if they’d match the 80,000 point sign up offer. Chase is typically very good at matching better sign up offers if you’ve applied for the card within the past 90 days. Within 2 days they responded to my message saying they’d be more than happy to match the offer (the 80,000 points, not the $50 statement credit) after I met my minimum spend.

Fast forward two months and I completed my minimum spend. The 70,000 points posted to my account without any issue. Although there was no sign of the extra 10,000 points. Chase did mention that I’d have to call them when I met the spend threshold, so I went ahead and sent Chase a secure message once again. I hate calling customer service, especially if there is an alternative option of just using my keyboard!

My message to Chase:

Screen Shot 2015-05-14 at 8.01.38 PMTwo days later, I received a message ultimately saying that the extra 10,000 points have been deposited into my account. To no surprise, shortly thereafter I was able to see the new points added in my account!

For those that recently applied for this card, I highly suggest sending Chase a message inquiring about being matched to the higher offer. This is a reminder that it never hurts to ask for the extra points if you see a better offer come available!

Now, for those that do not have the IHG credit card, but are interested in the card, here are some previous blog posts detailing the card and the program. Personally, my favorite benefit of the card is that it comes with a free night at ANY IHG hotel annually! This is a great since the card only carries a $49 annual fee. That means by paying $49 you can get a free night at the InterContinental Bora Bora, for example, that obviously goes for way more a night!

I did the same thing when I received the card. The extra 10,000 was sent to my account the billing cycle after I met the minimum spend. It was great!

I applied and received the IHG card in April under the 70,000 offer. I met the minimum spend within the past week. Seeing your article I decided to message Chase (on the 19th after I read your article) and ask for the additional 10,000 pts. They gave them to me. That was easy.
