I received an email this morning letting me know that the low-cost carrier WOW Air is expanding their US to European routes and is offering flights starting at $99 one-way. These new flights will include:

  • Baltimore/Washington International (BWI) airport to Paris – flights 5x/week
  • Baltimore/Washington International (BWI) airport to Amsterdam – flights 2x/week
  • Boston Logan International (BOS) airport to Paris – flights 6x/week
  • Boston Logan International (BOS) airport to Amsterdam – flights 3x/week

All flights will have a layover in Reykjavik, Iceland, but the way the schedule is built ensures your layover is anywhere between 70 minutes to 2.5 hours and in the same terminal. This means no need to go through security once in Iceland and no sitting in the airport all day.

The “starting at” $99 fare sale is for flights between October 1-December 25, 2015 and January 10-March 10, 2016. I searched all four new routes and found options for a $99 fare on the outbound, but return flights were well over $250. While it still might result in a less expensive ticket roundtrip then flying on another airline, you might want to consider flying WOW Air on the outbound flight and then using points/miles for your return.

WOW Air
Currently, every Thursday during the promotion dates is offering $99 fares from Boston to Paris.

Remember, since WOW Air is a “low cost carrier” you’ll pay extra for picking your seat, checked bags, and carry on bags. Make sure to take these extra costs into consideration when booking your flight.

I live in Philadelphia–I saw this deal and jumped on it. I got a $99 fare from BWI to AMS on 1/14 (MLK Weekend). There is lots of award space from AMS to PHL on 1/18. I’m either going to:

1.) Not check luggage and get off the plane in KEF to see the Northern Lights there
2.) Stay in Amsterdam
3.) Take the train and visit friends in Cologne, Germany

20K AA Miles to fly home to PHL from a US Airways European city makes this a no brainer. I paid the extra $$ for an XXL seat to get some decent shut eye on the way there; I’m going to enjoy it!
