Complimentary Lounge Access at Sheraton Hotels ALWAYS!

On August 11th, the Starwood Preferred Guest® credit card added a few major benefits. While I wrote about them last week in this blog post, I want to point out my favorite benefit of all – FREE ACCESS TO SHERATON CLUB LOUNGES WORLDWIDE. While the other benefits were made available for both the person and business card, this benefit is only limited to those who have the Starwood Preferred Guest® Business Credit Card from American Express OPEN and not the personal version.

This is a benefit that is already given to those with Platinum status, but now everyone can enjoy lounge access (assuming you are approved for the card) regardless of status. At a Sheraton lounge you will get complimentary daily breakfast, premium selection of beverages, and hors d’oeuvres. There are also snacks throughout the day and free WiFi access. I personally have found Sheraton lounges to be spotty throughout the US (some are way better than others), but international lounges are typically top notch. For example, a friend of mine stayed at the Sheraton in the Maldives and having lounge access saved her at least $100+ a day! You can check out all Sheraton lounges here.

Eligible Rates

As long as you book with Sheraton directly, you are granted this benefit. It does not matter if it is a paid stay, a stay using only points, or a cash + points stay. Regardless if you are paying for the stay or using points you are good to go! However, reservations booked through a third-party reservation system such as expedia.com, orbitz.com, where you are not paying the Sheraton hotel directly do not qualify.

Overall

With the Sheraton lounge access is only granted to the business version of the card that gives it a huge leg up compared to the personal version. The business version also gets American Express OPEN Savings access, while the personal card does not. Aside from those two benefits, the cards are exactly the same. The business version is also not limited to one sign up bonus in a lifetime. To be eligible to receive the sign up bonus (for the business card) you just cannot have been a cardmember within the past 12 months. You can learn more about all the card benefits here.

I personally think this is a huge perk to the card especially for those that stay at Sheraton hotels often enough. I’ve stayed at Sheraton hotels before and since I no longer have Platinum status this perk will come in quite handy. Up until now, I only had the person version of the card, but because of the new added benefit I just recently applied for the business period. I also know that I can justify the annual fee (once it hits 12 months from now) by taking advantage of the American Express statement credit offers I write about often (most likely I’ll actually receive enough statement credits to pay off the card plus some!).

Comments

  1. I just applied for the personal card last night 🙁 Is lounge access restricted to only the card holder or is it for anyone staying in your room?

  2. While the Sheraton lounge “access is only granted to the business version” of the card that gives it a huge leg up compared to the personal version.
