The Iceland based low-cost carrier, WOW Air, is expanding their service to the West Coast. Currently, the only United States destinations include Boston and Baltimore, so this is a nice addition for those out in California to get to Iceland and then connecting flights throughout Europe. In Summer 2016, service will start in Los Angeles and San Francisco.
These new routes will be services by three new Airbus A330-300 aircrafts which are larger then the current aircrafts from Boston and Baltimore. You’ll be able to fly to Iceland 4x a week from Los Angeles and 5x a week from San Francisco. Hopefully this will bring cheap fares to not only Iceland but the rest of Europe! Currently, you are not able to purchase tickets on WOW Air from these two new destinations until January 2016.
I personally flew WOW Air from Boston to Reykjavik, Iceland in September and had a great experience! While they do charge extra for checked bags, oversized carry on luggage, and seat assignment, if you pack light and do not care where you sit for the 10 hour flight you shouldn’t experience any extra costs. Even if you do need to pay some extra, the cheap fare makes up for it! You can read my review here.
