Purchase Hyatt Points with a 30% Bonus

Through the end of the month, November 30, 2015, Hyatt is running a promotion where you can purchase points with a 30% bonus. While this is not as good as the 40% promotion that they ran over the summer, it can still be beneficial for some. With this promotion you can purchase up to 55,000 points plus the 30% bonus.

While I never recommend purchasing points speculatively, with this promotion there are definitely some opportunities to save money for an upcoming stay. While there are many examples, I do want to point out a few scenarios where purchasing points to redeem can be much cheaper then paying the lowest available rate at the hotel directly:

Example #1: Hyatt Escala Lodge

This Hyatt property at the base of the Canyons Mountain in Park City, UT is a category 4 hotel (which means 15,000 points to redeem for a free night). During ski season, this hotel cost about $500/night – which I do think is expensive for this property. Instead you can purchase 47,000 points with a 14,100 bonus (thus netting you 61,100 points) for $1,128. You can then redeem 60,000 points for 4 free nights which nets out at $282/night. This is MUCH cheaper then the typical going rate! Also remember, when you use points you are not paying the taxes/fees on top of the lowest available rate! It is even a better deal if the Points + Cash option is available. With this you redemption option, you can purchase 24,000 points (giving you a 7,200 bonus) and netting you a total of 31,200 points for $576. When redeeming for a Points + Cash option at a category 4 hotel, you’ll need to redeem 7,500 points + $100 a night. So four nights with this option will only cost you $244/night. And the best thing about Points + Cash is that you can use a diamond suite upgrade and the stay counts for all promotions and towards status.

I’ve personally stayed at this property and think it is a steal when redeeming points!

Example #2: Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa

This high end property in the Maldives recently went down a category from a 7 to a 6. This is amazing for those looking to redeem points! The average cost at this hotel is about $1,000 a night! With a high nightly cost, using points will essentially give you a 50% discount on two nights! You can purchase 39,000 points plus a 11,400 bonus and it will cost you $936. This will result in paying less then $500/night!  And, similar to the example before, if Points + Cash is available, you can do much better – this option requires 12,500 points + $150/night. You could purchase up to 5 nights worth of points with this current promotion – it will cost you $1,152 to purchase the points then another $150/night, meaning it will only cost you $380 a night! That is an incredibly cheap option to stay in the Maldives. Unfortunately though, you cannot check availability online for a Cash + Points reservation so you must call 1-800-228-3360.

Overall… Of course there are many other scenarios where purchasing points can actually be beneficial, but you’ll have to compare the hotel to the lowest available rate for your desired dates. You can purchase points here.

Thanks to One Mile at a Time for letting me know about this promotion!
