Hyatt’s Status Match Twist

Close to a month ago I wrote about a very generous status match offered by Hyatt. At that time they were offering instant Hyatt status to anyone who could show a comparable status at another loyalty chain and at least one stay at that chain within the past 12 months. Hyatt was inundated with match requests and probably realized that they were being too generous.

The generosity of that match was short lived, but the instant match is still available for some. While they were originally matching to almost all hotel chains, it is now limited to just those who currently have status with Starwood. Not only that, you must show that you’ve stayed at a Starwood hotel 20 nights within the past 12 months!

The Perks of Hyatt Diamond…

My favorite perks of Diamond status include:

  • Complimentary access to the Regency Club or Grand Club lounge. Lounges have continental breakfast, evening hors d’oeuvres, and typically snacks and drinks throughout the day.  And if a hotel doesn’t have a club lounge you’ll get full breakfast at the hotel restaurant.
  • Four suite upgrades to use on paid or cash + point stays. This allows you to call Hyatt ahead of time and if there is a suite available they will automatically upgrade you at the time of calling. This only applies to the lowest suite level category at the hotel.
  • 4pm late check-out
  • 30% bonus on all points earned.

If you are able to receive the status match, it will give you status through February 2017. Unfortunately though, those that already have Hyatt Diamond status will not be able to leverage their Starwood Platinum status to extend their status. This is only for new Hyatt Diamond members, which I know does not make some people very happy.

To Match…

If you are eligible and have not already request your match, email goldpassport@hyatt.com with a screen shot of your Starwood status and past 12 months of stays at Starwood. Some readers have asked if this is a one time thing and quite honestly I am not sure. Hyatt never stated whether or not receiving this match would prevent someone from taking advantage of another status match opportunity.

And… if you aren’t eligible for Hyatt’s status match, you can always take advantage of the Hilton match I wrote about yesterday.
