Earlier this week I received a great offer from Southwest Airlines for making a purchase at 1-800-FLOWERS. While I’ll go into details below, ultimately, you can possibly purchase flowers for less then the points you receive are worth.

The Offer

Earn 1,750 Southwest points PER order of $29.99 or more. There seems to be no limit on how many times you can earn these points.

Maximizing the Offer

  • There is currently an Amex Offer where you can receive a $15 statement credit when you spend $50 or more. Place two orders on the SAME registered credit card for a total of $59.89. This will then allow you to earn the bonus points twice while still getting the statement credit. Make sure to register for this offer prior to make the purchase.
  • Use an American Express business card (OPEN) to get a 5% statement credit.

The Math

If you make a $29.99 purchase that will net you 1,750 points. The points earned is equal to $25 on Southwest. If you are able to use an Amex OPEN card, that will give you $1.5 back on your purchase, so if you include the value of the Southwest points earned, that means you are only paying $3.49 for the flowers. Now, if you place two $29.99 orders using a registered American Express credit card for the Amex Offer that will cost you $59.98 and net you 3,500 Southwest points. You’ll also receive a $15 statement credit for the Amex Offer bringing your cost down to $44.98. And, if your credit card is a business Amex then you’ll receive an additional 5% statement credit on the $59.98 spent, totaling another $3 discount. Ultimately meaning you can pay as low as $41.98 for the two flower orders. The points earned from these two orders is equal to $50 on a Southwest flight. That means, when taking into consideration the value of the points earned, you are actually earning MORE then the cost of the flowers and allowing you to “profit” about $8!

Of course the math above is with a perfect scenario and doesn’t take into consideration any shipping charges. Of course, IF you need to pay shipping this will alter the savings dramatically since they charge an arm and a leg to ship. I suggest looking for the free shipping options.

I also just saw from the Frequent Miler that JetBlue is offering the exact same promotion. Use can use this  JetBlue promo link and code TB1750. Frequent Miler also has some tips on how to maximize on the deal.

Glad to see someone reporting on this. I’ve used the hell out of this promotion for 3 years. Very sad that the promotional bonus points do not count towards Companion Pass any more.
But, by accessing 1800 Flowers website via the Southwest shopping portal nets you even more points: 7 points per $1 spent.
To get free shipping on all 1800 flowers purchases for a year, you can sign up for the “Celebrations Passport” membership which gets you free shipping for a year for $29.99. Additionally, you get “1 Celebrations point” per $1 spent at 1800 flowers, and after earning 200 points, you get a $20 gift code.

How do you know which flowers are qualify for the deal? It says in fine print “Offers cannot be combined, are not available on all products and are subject to restrictions, limitations and blackout “
