InterContinental Hotels Group is offering a bonus when purchasing points through February 26, 2016. You can get a 100% bonus on all points purchased, and the maximum points you can purchase is 60,000.

So let’s assume you are planning to purchase within the 26,000-60,000 point range where every 1,000 points costs $11.50. With the bonus offer you will essentially be purchasing points at .58 cents per point. This is actually a great value to purchase points, and much better then the .7 cents per point roundabout method (method where you can essentially “purchase” points at .7 cents per points by making a reservation using the “Cash & Points” option (so you must have enough points for that reservation) and if you cancel the reservation you will get the “Cash” portion back in points. The “Cash” portion of your reservation is essentially buying points at .7 cents per point. Obviously not good for those that want the cash back, but good for those that want more points).

Example of where this is a good deal

You can purchase 120,000 points for $690. This will get you 4 free nights at the Holiday Inn Resort in Aruba (right on the beach!). This property is 30,000 points a night – which means you can ultimately stay at this hotel for $172.50 a night even during peak times (for example, over Christmas/New Years).

Also, IHG also offers Point Break hotels where there is an entire list of hotels that only cost 5,000 points a night! It is a great opportunity to stay for cheap if there is a hotel on the list that you are looking to stay at. If you purchase enough points to get the 100% bonus, you’ll essentially be able to redeem for a Point Break hotel for $28.75/night, and that includes taxes!

However, like all point offers, I do not suggest purchasing speculatively. Programs can devalue and you do not want to be stuck with points that you ultimately do not need. You can purchase points here.
