Southwest, unlike many of the other airlines, does not open up their flights 330 days in advance. Instead, every so often they extend their reservations system a few months out at a time. As of today, you can only book flights through November 4, 2016.

However, I just saw on the Southwest flight schedule site that on June 2, 2016, Southwest will open up their schedule for reservations through January 4, 2017. This means in almost a month you are able to make reservations for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years.

Those peak holiday flights increase in price quickly, so if you are looking to book a flight then I suggest you take a look at the calendar now and figure out your ideal time in advance. Once the booking system has been extended I will be sure to write about it again.

Thankyou for posting this. I DO hope to make a Christmas reservation on Southwest, and it’s always a bit annoying that you can’t book Southwest far in advance. Thanks for sharing the date.

Thanks for the statement that you’ll remind your readers again as June 2 approaches. I’m always amused by the bloggers who let their readers know the SWA schedule has opened….about 3 days afterwards. Really? Do they think we don’t notice 😉

It doesn’t hurt to make he reservations even if you’re not 100% sure of time or even place. Southwest reservations can be changed with zero penalty unlike other airlines that enjoy mugging you for $150 to $200. per person because you just couldn’t get out of work three hours early the day before Christmas.

You can even cancel and get a credit good for any flight for a year from when you bought the ticket.
