Maximizing Free Stuff From Costco, Target, and More!

Back in June I wrote about an awesome Amex Offer where you can get a $15 statement credit with a $30+ purchase from Google Shopping Express. For those of you that have no idea what Google Shopping Express is, it is an awesome service, run by Google obviously, where they will hand deliver purchased items from participating stores. Some stores include Costco, Target, Babies R Us, Kohl’s, Staples, Walgreens, Barnes & Nobles, etc. The exact stores depend on your location. I’ve personally been using this service for 2 or so years and am obsessed with it! I started using it while living in NYC and am so happy that I am still able to use it in the suburb I currently live in outside of Boston. You can typically get same day or next day delivery.

With this service, you purchase your items directly through the Google Shopping Express site and you pay the exact price if you were to shop directly through that merchant. So you are never overpaying for an item which I love. If an item is on sale, then you are paying the sale price! Unfortunately though, you cannot purchase perishables and they only deliver to certain cities/locations – check delivery areas here.

Maximizing the Offer

While this is a targeted offer (no Twitter hashtag available), I have this offer available on most of my American Express credit cards. Make sure to use the multiple browser trick to register for the same offer on multiple cards to take advantage of the savings multiple times.

New members to Google Shopping Express will receive $15 off their first purchase. So if you are new to the site, it is best to make a purchase right at the $45 mark, so you get the $15 off, and then will still have a $30 transaction on your card. You can sign up here. You’ll then receive a $15 statement credit per the Amex Offer. This means that your $45 purchase will only cost you $15! If you are already a Google Shopping Express member, you’ll be able to get a 50% discount by making a $30 purchase. Then, assuming you have multiple Amex cards and were targeted on multiple accounts, make additional $30 purchases. You are not limited to the number of purchases you can make. You also are not charged any extra amount per purchase. Typically though, you need to purchase at least $15 from a particular store to not be charged shipping.

While there is a charge for this service (you can sign up for a yearly, monthly, or per order subscription), you can sign up for a FREE 90 day trial here. Just remember though, if you do not cancel your membership, you will continue to be charged on a monthly basis.

To take advantage of the $15 credit for new members and free trials, you can always have another member in your household sign up for the service with their email address.

Amongst mine and my husbands American Express cards, we will be saving $90 total with this offer! We shop at Costco quite often anyways, so this will not require us to spend any extra money to save money!

Comments

  1. Groupon has the $15 for $40 offer right now. I bought a diaper pail on sale for $69.99. Pre tax I paid $30 after stacking both offers.

  2. My challenge is after placing 4 separate orders, GE will not allow you to add another amex card period. Tried to remove the cards that I used, still no go. Guess 4 is the max you can go here.

  3. Thank you for clarifying how to do this deal.

I activated the Amex Offer on my two qualifying cards. Then I put $45.75 of items from Walgreens in my shopping cart, then created a G Express account, then paid with one of the Amex accounts. The total is $45.75 plus sales tax plus $4.99 shipping (for delivery in 3 days). The total showing is $55+, and I don’t see any discounts…did I miss something along the way?

    • I also realized that after making my over$30 purchase. it seems like Amex coded it as Google service instead as Google express on my statement!

      • @carol – in my account it says google services and triggered the statement credit so you’ll be fine.

    • @miles – what discount are you looking for? The $15 for new customers? Did you sign up through a referral link?

The $15 through Amex will come as a statement credit. You won’t see it during checkout.

  4. Since the free shipping and 50% discount didn’t work, I’ve decided to cancel my Google Express account. I find this sentence “Web: Go to “My account,” then select Membership from the drop-down menu. Click the End membership link.” Unfortunately, the “End membership link” isn’t there.

Next, I tried Google Live Chat, but that seems to have an exceedingly long wait time…I’ve been #4 in the queue for awhile. I will try later.
