By taking advantage of two offers, you can essentially purchase British Airways Avios points at 1.5 cents per point. Currently, the British Airways shopping portal is offering 46 Avios per dollar when making purchases at Norton online. Additionally, there is an Amex Offer right now where if you spend $49.99 at Norton, you’ll receive a $15 statement credit (you must enroll in this offer first by going to your AmericanExpress.com account). Thanks to Running with Miles for pointing out this great offer!
While purchases at Norton aren’t too popular amongst most readers, if you typically redeem your British Airways points for more then 1.5 cents per point, then this could be a great way to increase your account. I personally put a valuation on these points right at the 1.5 cent per point mark anyways, so this is not a deal I would jump on speculatively. If you know of a British Airways redemption you are looking to make, do the math and see how it works out.
The great thing about this deal, is that the Amex Offer seems to be available on every single one of my American Express credit cards, so it does not seem too targeted. That means, you can take advantage of this offer multiple times.
Steps to Take Advantage…
- Log into your AmericanExpress.com account and save the Norton by Symantec offer. If you have multiple Amex cards and this offer appears on every single one, make sure to use the multiple browser trick first before saving any of the offers to your account. If you click the “Add to Card” button first without opening up multiple web browsers for your various Amex cards, it will not appear again after you saved it once.
- Go to the British Airways shopping portal and click the “Shop Now” button. If you are not already signed, you’ll need to enter your British Airways number and password.
- Purchase either something you actually want/need (which is how you’ll really get the best deal!) or if you are doing it purely for the points, purchase the $49.99 item.
The cheapest British Airways award redemption for US domestic travel is now 7,500 points. At 1.5 cents per point, that means a one-way ticket will cost you $112.5. Of course, that is when math works out perfectly and you are purchasing exactly what you need. For the most part, that is actually a pretty good fixed price on a one-way flight with a distance between 1 mile and 1,151 miles. Some popular routes, as examples, include: New York to Toronto, Chicago to Washington DC, and New Orleans to Charlotte, New York to Boston, New York to Chicago, Los Angeles to Denver. There are also many other routes that provide great value for more miles both domestic and international. Or, if you prefer business/first class, that is typically when you can get the biggest bang for your buck.
