New York City’s restaurant week has returned and will run January 23 through February 10, 2017. While I do not seek out restaurant week menus, I know many love the opportunity to eat at a high-end NYC restaurant for cheap (relatively speaking for these NYC restaurants). You can get a 3-course meal for $29.00 during lunch or $42.00 during dinner. It looks like prices has increased since last year! Saturdays are excluded and not all restaurants participate on Sundays. You can check out all the participating restaurants here.

Screen Shot 2017-01-16 at 8.16.32 PMTo make your bill slightly cheaper, American Express is offering a way to get a $5 statement credit with a $35+ purchase at participating NYC restaurants (those that participate in Restaurant Week). The good thing is that you’ll get $5 off on up to 4 times per Amex credit card. But, if you have multiple cards, you can take advantage even more times! You must, however, register your American Express card prior to eating out – the terms also state that registration is limited, so make sure to register soon even if you aren’t 100% sure if you’ll need it.

The best part about this promotion is that you do not actually need to order off the Restaurant Week menu to get the $5 statement credit. Having a $35+ transaction will simply generate the statement credit regardless of what you order. Also, this will work for purchasing gift cards at the restaurant, so you can purchase a $35 certificate now for eating out another time. Just make sure that you are purchasing the gift card from the restaurant directly and not from a third-party vendor. You cannot take advantage of this until restaurant week actually starts on July 25th.

The terms also state you can register more than one American Express card, so for an expensive bill you can split up your bill in multiple $35 transactions amongst multiple registered Amex cards. Since dinner is $42, chances are with a drink, tip, and tax you’ll hit the $70 mark per person so make sure to put $35 on each of your registered cards (assuming you have at least 2 amex cards). This could bring a $70 meal down to $60 all in.

Will any of you be taking advantage of NYC Restaurant Week? If so, enjoy!
