Earn Hyatt Explorist Status!

At you all know, Hyatt is changing up their entire loyalty program come March 1st and we will soon see 4 new levels of status (with a harder way to earn the desirable status). As of right now, those with the Hyatt co-branded credit card receive Platinum status under the current tier levels. When the program switches over, one of the perks of having the Hyatt credit card is that you’ll receive Discoverist status. This is the 2nd to lowest status you can have under the 4-tier level and in my opinion nothing to write home about.

Well… Chase just informed me that they are giving card members the opportunity to earn Explorist Status. Unfortunately though, it will require a ton of spend. If you are able to spend $50,000 on the card annually, you’ll receive Explorist Status.

The main difference of Explorist Status over Discoverist Status is that you’ll receive a 20% bonus on all points earned, 4 Club Lounge Awards, and a room upgrade if available (excluding suites and rooms with club lounge access).

Personally, I am not sure I’d spend that much on the Hyatt card solely for the upgrade in status. But, if you use your Hyatt credit card anyways, then it could be worth it. While I am glad Chase is adding another “perk” to the card, I really thought it would be more in the $20,000 spend level. There is also another way to earn Discoverist status for 2017 that I’ll write about later this week. It involves matching your Hyatt status to MGM, but will only earn you this upgraded status through February 2018 and not years thereafter.

Is this for any spend on the card? The site makes it sound as though you only get the base points for spend at Hyatt. Also, will it only be good for the year from the time of meeting the spend or will it be good for 12 months or more? Thanks!

Thanks we currently have Diamond status thanks to a match and I’ll have to see if it’s worth the trouble to put that much spend on the cards or just use points or pay for the club access since that’s the part that we use the most.

With the Chase Hyatt card, will I still receive my Cat 1-4 room award each anniversary after the changeover?
