Platinum Delta SkyMiles® Credit Card from American ExpressJust last week, Delta announced some amazing limited time offers for their co-branded American Express credit cards. I know one of the things that turns folks people off from applying for credit cards is the annual fee that comes along with it. So, I wanted to point out how you can offset these Delta credit card annual fees and in many cases maybe even save more money! While this works for all American Express credit cards, I want to specifically point out the Delta cards since these cards are on everyones radar due to the limited time offer.

Offsetting Fees with Amex Offers

If you’ve been keeping up on this blog for awhile you are probably well aware by now that I am a huge fan of saving money through the American Express statement credit offers, otherwise known as Amex Offers. These promotions typically require you to spend $X amount of money at a participating merchant to get $Y amount back as a statement credit. Since these are “American Express” offers, you can only use an American Express credit card to be eligible for the statement credit. All four of these Delta credit cards listed above are American Express credit cards and are eligible for these offers. And you are able to receive the statement credits on multiple cards! Even authorized users for the cards are eligible for the statement credits as well!

While I might be an extreme case since I take advantage of these offers quite often, there was one point where I received $1,000 back in statement credits over a 2 month timeframe across all 10 of my Amex cards. I wrote about this real life scenario here to help you understand how these statement credits at participating merchants can actually help you save money on everyday purchases!

With the Amex statement credit offers alone, that meant that I averaged $100 back on each card over the course of the two months. I also receive many other statement credits throughout the year. These statement credits allow me to justify the annual fee (if there is one) and “earn” money on top of it! Some pretty popular Amex Offers from just this year alone include: $250 statement credit at Sam’s Club, $40 statement credit at JetBlue Airlines, $50 statement credit at Neiman Marcus, $75 statement credit at Sak’s 5th Avenue, $60 statement credit at Hilton, free razors at Dollar Shave Club, $50 statement credit at AirBnB, plus many more! For me personally, I only count my savings when I’d be making a purchase anyways at a participating merchant. And for many of these offers, I’ve been able to purchase Visa/Mastercard/Amex gift cards, receive the statement credit, and then use those gift cards on any future purchase I’d like! For other offers, I’ve also been able to purchase a store gift card and then re-sell the gift card making a profit!

While I love these American Express credit cards for many other reasons, taking advantage of offers to offset the annual fee and save money on purchases you’d make anyways is great!
