2 Reasons Why the Starwood Business Card is Better then the Personal Version

The Amex EveryDay® Credit Card from American ExpressWith the Starwood credit card, many people just automatically assume to apply for the personal card, however, there are actually some added perks that you’ll receive by having the business credit card (over the personal version of the card). And right now, the Starwood Preferred Guest® Business Credit Card from American Express OPEN has a limited time offer where you’ll receive a higher bonus offer in addition to these added perks. Remember, since the personal and business card are two different products, you are eligible to receive the offer for each card, although limited to one offer in a lifetime per card.

2 Better Perks with the Business Version:

Lounge Access

Back in 2015 a new perk was just added to just the business version of the Starwood credit card. With this benefit, you’ll receive COMPLIMENTARY club lounge access at all Sheraton hotels worldwide. If you stay at Sheraton hotels and do not have top tier status, this can be a HUGE perk as you will receive complimentary daily breakfast, a premium selection of beverages, and evening hors d’oeuvres. There are also snacks throughout the day and free WiFi access. As long as you book directly with Starwood, you are given this benefit (regardless if it is a paid stay, or a stay using points or cash + points). I personally have found Sheraton lounges to be spotty throughout the US, but international lounges are typically top notch. You can read more about this complimentary lounge access here.

OPEN Savings

With the business version of the card (as well as all other business American Express credit cards) you are eligible to American Express OPEN savings. This gives you 5% statement credit when you use your card at many merchants, including: FedEx, Hertz, 1-800-FLOWERS, Barnes & Noble, etc.  All you have to do is make the purchase with your OPEN credit card and you’ll receive a statement credit for your purchase.  You can read more about AMEX Open savings here.

Overall

The personal and business credit card are very similar in nature with the number of point you’ll earn and all of the other perks that come along with being a cardmember. These two benefits above, however, are only available to those with the business version of the card. If you are only going to hold one of these two cards in your wallet, because of these two benefits, I suggest the business card over the personal card.
